Perfect for a short visit Advantages: Location and helpfulness of staff. Disadvantages: Rooms were too hot. So many might be put off because it is a chain hotel however positioning of this hotel is perfect. Just a few streets away you will find yourself in the Vatican City. However the management of the hotel was organised the rooms were clean and staff were more than willing to give a reccomendation all resturants recommended to us were excellent). If there is a down side in the height of high summer - which again isn't the best time to visit Rome as ... ...installed with central heating were hotter than comfortable room temperature. To conclude the hotel has a good setting near the town centre but seculded enough the hospitality makes you feel at home and the rooms are spotlessly clean. The hotel is perfect for a weekend stay. Cardinal Hotel - Not Bad, Not Bad Advantages: Reception, Balcony, Breakfast Bar, Rooms Disadvantages: First Impression ...the taxi to find the Cardinal Hotel, St Peters. - The Address The address suggests that the hotel is basically on the door step of the Vatican its self. I have no idea why it was so similar to the address of the actual St Peters because the Cardinal Hotel is on the out skirts of the city. Even one or two of the taxi drivers who had been around for a while weren't sure where it was. To get to the hotel you have to turn off a main road after avoiding ... ...I first walked into the Cardinal Hotel I found a lounge where you could wait or relax, open to the elements which lead to the reception. When approaching the reception it gave me a very professional impression with clocks for around the world lined up on the wall behind the reception as well as a spotless desk which ran from one side of the room to the other. Le Caprice - birthday visit Advantages: Well known for celebrity viewing Disadvantages: Tables close together Myself, my partner and my teenage son paid a visit to this restaurant for my partner's birthday. It was relatively easy to get a table (although I did book 3 months in advance!). I needed to extend the booking to include my son and they were very pleased to do so. Upon arrival we were shown to our table, which was at the far end of the restaurant but afforded a good view of the entrance (with many personalised plates adorning the cars!) and the ... ...the crispy duck was indeed crispy - bordering on rock hard! The main courses were mouth watering (although they do not come with vegetables and we were not asked if we wanted them at the time of ordering!) The desserts were out of this world (honeycomb ice cream to die for!) and my partner's dessert arrived with 'happy birthday' beautifully piped on the plate. Want to Roam around Rome? - Stay Here! Advantages: Location, Price and Staff Disadvantages: Nothing, It is what it is! ...Location ********* The Clarin Hotel is a 2 star hotel situated in Via Palermo, a street central to the city centre although on the Eastern side, and approximately a 5 minute walk from Termini Station and a 10-12 minute walk to the Coliseum and many other attractions. I would recommend getting the train from the airport (either of them) to Termini Station as the hotel is 2 roads away from the station, and as long as your case has wheels or bag isn't ... ...I ended up booking the Clarin Hotel via the intermediary Lastminute.com and I don't know how much they charge in commission but I still found it reasonably priced. I have been on city breaks before where we have skimped on spending loads on a hotel in the centre and ended up suffering and having to wait for buses/trams/taxi's to take us in and out. Which ends up costing a bomb. So I decided this trip we would pay the money and stay in the centre ... Sharing my experience of the Sheraton Roma Advantages: Comfortable hotel - handy for the metro Disadvantages: Characterless - can be expensive ...booking the Sheraton. The Sheraton isn't in central Rome, it's in the EUR district. This presented no significant problem however. It's a breeze to find - take junction 26 on the ring road and head for central Rome. Go through the EUR district almost to the very end and turn left at the sign that says 'Sheraton Hotel' (you can see it from the road anyway). It's a big, modern(ish) hotel with absolutely no redeeming features architecturally but all ... ...what you'd expect in a Sheraton - glitzy and shiny with lots of leather sofas dotted around for those little tete-a-tetes, a large area to go online (or as they say ' the Link@Sheraton experienced with Microsoft'), and a large piano bar just off to the side. There's also a small shopping mall with four or five outlets offering gifts, jewellery and tobacco etc. Having sorted that all out, I went to park the car.
