Great quality and location, inexpensive price
Review of Jolly Hotel Villa Carpegna, Rome by
LucyOCS
Advantages: Inexpensive for it's quality and location, very polite staff, very quiet
Disadvantages: Expensive restaurant
...Carpegna hotel, part of the Jolly hotels chain. It seemed to be within walking distance of the centre of Rome, fairly inexpensive for Rome (£90 per room per night), and had four stars. I duly booked it.
The hotel lived up to all expectations, in fact I've never stayed in such a plush hotel. It was only a 30 minute walk to the Vatican (and a very cheap taxi ride back at night) and situated in a nice safe area. A very good buffet breakfast was included ... ...from a 4 star hotel. The staff were all very polite and helpful and all spoke English, and (especially important I think) the hotel was very quiet.
The only slight criticism I would have was of the restaurant. The food was very good, but incredibly over-priced £15-20 for the cheapest main course. We ate there on the first night as we arrived late and couldn't see any nearby restaurants (there are in fact restuarants in the nearby square). I would ...

The Crowne's not fit for a king
Review of Crowne Plaza Rome Saint Peter's, Rome by
bluejules
Advantages: Comfortable, clean, pleasant staff
Disadvantages: Mix up at check-in, restaurant v. expensive,
...have never stayed in a Crowne Plaza before (but have stayed in a Holiday Inn, which is the same chain of hotels) and we thought it looked nice.
We got a taxi from the airport (Ciampino) which took about 30 minutes. We booked the taxi before we left England, to pick us up from the airport and it was charged to our bill. ~ On Arrival ~
Upon arriving at the hotel, it looked nice and clean. We walked into the reception with our luggage and joined the ... ...around £70 per night.
Crowne Plaza is located 3km from Rome centre, there was a courtesy bus to take guests from the hotel to Vatican City or Rome Centre, several times a day. We found this was a cheap (obviously!) convenient way to travel to the city. We did get a taxi back on a few occasions, which cost £6-£7 depending whereabouts in the city you got picked up. We did travel in the courtesy bus as much as possible but sometimes we wanted to travel ...

I don't recommend this hotel to anybody
Review of Hotel Montecitorio, Rome by
verydisappointed
Advantages: only location
Disadvantages: many
We stayed at this hotel in october and were very disappointed of it. At first nobody took us from airport, though we odered pick up servise from it in reception.Second, the most inportant, that nobody informed us that building is under construction so entrance was terrible and we couldn't normally open window in our room so we lived like in dark box. "Hotel" is really on 3 fluor and there is no lift .TV in our room was broken, and we asked in reception ... ...wrote letter to owner of hotel and asked in reception to give answer till we check out in morning, and of course, we didn't get any answer to our questions:( breakfast so poor, that better go to any cafe at a blow.So if You don't want to spoil mood and holiday, never stay in this dump. ...

Roman gem
Review of Best Western Hotel Mondial, Rome by
angieluvslycee
Advantages: Location
Disadvantages: None
Stopped in this hotel last August and was very satisfied with the overall experience. The hotel is within walking distance from the main railway termini which is ideal for the half hourly service to da vinci airport, although a taxi from the termini is recommended if arriving at night.Check in was easy, the lobby is very small so felt a little cramped when there was a few people around. The staff were very friendly and helpful when asked for directions ... ...the main ancient roman sites are within walking distance ie coloseum, trevi fountain, pantheon, spanish steps, forum. The room was in need of a refurb but was a good size and very clean and tidy, the shower was over the bath but worked brilliant, the bed was big and very comfy. The air con worked great which is needed if you visit in summer like we did. There are many wonderful restaurants close by all serving lovely food which you would expect in Italy, most ...

A friendly staffed hotel
Review of Relais Vaticano, Rome by
funky_frankie888
Advantages: Clean, comfortable, helpful staff
Disadvantages: None!
...is very fast and often wreckless and drivers do not always stop to let pedestrians cross the roads.
Overall, we had a very pleasant stay. The rooms were clean and air-conditioned and the atmosphere was very friendly.
I would strongly recommend the Relais Vaticano hotel for short stays. ...
