Around RONDA

Advantages: An absolute gem of a town in a stunning location
Disadvantages: Gets very busy...VERY

When we were visiting the Costa del Sol at the end of May, we decided to take a day-trip to RONDA. Of course, being situated so very close to the concrete jungle of the Costa del Crime, 50km or around an hour's drive, coupled with the fact that the town is stunningly scenic, means that we weren't the only ones with this in mind. IT GETS VERY BUSY. Never mind. It was the first full day of our holiday, so we were up at the crack of dawn (almost) and half-way there before most tour buses had even struggled out of their cosy garages. RONDA is literally jam-packed with history and is one of Andalucia's most visited towns. It hangs, precipitously, atop a plateau which commands wide vistas in all directions. Such a position was always going to be a natural choice for settlement, and so it proved to be. It's been settled since ...

Walk around Ronda

Advantages: Interesting town
Disadvantages: none

We needed an Easter break so we went to the Andalusian Mountains of Spain. We stayed in accommodation not far away from Ronda. I was very impressed with this town so will tell you about my visit here . Ronda is inland from the Costa del Sol it takes about an hour to drive the113km from Malaga. Ronda is easily accessible by train from Algerciras or Granada and the stations in between. We were lucky and found a place to park the car in one of the streets but there is a car park by the bull ring and some other underground car parks too. We drove to Ronda from the village we were staying in Ronda is a great viewpoint with views of mountains the most fantastic scenery. The narrow gorge, Tajo del Ronda, 150 meters deep runs through the town .The Guadalevin River runs along this gorge. There are three magnificent bridges to span ...

Benidorm it's not!!

Advantages: The beauty, history and culture of Spain that is so often missed
Disadvantages: Gets very busy in season

and costs 9?. each way There is also a direct train from Malaga to Ronda. The journey takes around 45 minutes and costs 20?. each way . Of course you can, as we did drive there. The directions from Malaga are to drive along the coast (E15), past Fuengirola and Marbella to San Pedro de Alcántara. Then take the A376 from San Pedro de Alcántara for 44km before taking the A369 to Ronda. But let me warn you that this drive from the coast up to Ronda is very hairy!! Remember Ronda is actually 739m above sea level so the journey is taking you forever upwards along a VERY winding road complete with many a hairpin bend. I have to say though that the road is better than a lot of the mountain roads that we encountered in other parts of Andalusia, and while it can be quite slow going you have the benefits of some stunning scenery. This journey to ...
