Benidorm it's not!!

Advantages: The beauty, history and culture of Spain that is so often missed
Disadvantages: Gets very busy in season

...of Malaga.

Ronda is situated 60km up a winding mountain road in the mountain range Serranía de Ronda. It stands at an altitude of 739 m and has approximately 35,000 inhabitants. The average year round temperature is 15C and it has around 2700 hours of sunshine per year.

Ronda is a town that is not that well known on the typical Spanish tourist list of places to go, but – believe me – it should be, it is a wonderful place.
...was February!!

Ronda has two parts the old Moorish area, La Ciudad, and the "new" (circa 1485!) town, El Mercadillo, dividing these quarters is the El Tajo, the 100 plus meters deep canyon through which the River Guadalevín flows. The views down into the gorge are awe-inspiring
Spanning the gorge is the triple-arched 200-year-old stone bridge that links the old and new districts

It's this gorge and ... more

...their cosy garages. RONDA is literally jam-packed with history and is one of Andalucia's most visited towns. It hangs, precipitously, atop a plateau which commands wide vistas in all directions. Such a position was always going to be a natural choice for settlement, and so it proved to be. It's been settled since prehistoric times and was well development during the Roman occupation. But it was during the Moorish period when the town blossomed, and ...
...from the coast up to Ronda (770m above sea level) is through a series of steep climbs and hairpin bends along a winding mountain road which, although in good condition and reasonably wide, is still quite time-consuming, especially if you're stuck behind a slow-moving truck. It does have its compensations, however. Some of the scenery is pretty spectacular and if it's clear enough, you can see the coastline of Africa if you look behind you (not advisable ...

Walk around Ronda

Advantages: Interesting town
Disadvantages: none

...my visit here . Ronda is inland from the Costa del Sol it takes about an hour to drive the113km from Malaga. Ronda is easily accessible by train from Algerciras or Granada and the stations in between. We were lucky and found a place to park the car in one of the streets but there is a car park by the bull ring and some other underground car parks too. We drove to Ronda from the village we were staying in Ronda is a great viewpoint with views ...
...The town of Ronda is an old settlement from Celt times. The later Roman and Moorish architecture are most prominent. There are several museums many eating places and shops. There is a bull ring which is used in fiesta time. There is a museum in the bull ring we did not visit as I am not a lover of bull fighting. There is also an art gallery. After my husband and I mooched around the streets a bit we stopped for lunch ay a café (I can not remember ...

Relaxing, calm and hot

Advantages: The food, people and hot weather.
Disadvantages: None that I can think of.

and fresh fruit & veg. There are plenty of oranges/lemons/olives that grow on trees, so these will be in everybody's home. I love olives, so that's a bonus for me! Every home that has a garden seem to have these trees. The people I found to be very friendly, laid back, curtious, and willing to help at all times. They have siesta in the afternoons as the weather is too hot. So shops and stores are open in the mornings and evenings. They don't seem to worry about time, and do things at their own pace, and seem to be far more relaxed than Britain. You see them walking up and down the streets as if they haven't a care in the world! Many of the Spanish seem to own at least 1 or 2 dogs. Spain, I think, is definately a nation of dog lovers! I visited some lovely towns like Torremolinos, Ronda, Fuengirola and Mijas. Fuengirola is ...

Review of General: Spain

andalucia has everything

Advantages: It has everything you could want in a holiday destination
Disadvantages: sometimes too hot for some at the peak of summer

Andalucia is essentially the Costa Del Sol, it just encompasses more of the Spanish main-land. As well as the coastal areas which are jammed full of tourists (predominantly british usually), the breath-taking Spanish scenery in towns such as Granada, Ronda and Seville are all located within this beautiful region. In my short life I have visited Southern Spain a total of 5 times and from the first visit, my whole family totally fell in love with it. The laid back life-style and "manana" attitude gives your holiday a lovely relaxed feel which is such a must when you go on holiday. Coupled with that, if you have children, are all the attractions which can keep the active family occupied for a 2 week break. You have the many water parks for those swelteringly hot days and "tivoli world" located in arroyo de la miel (literally ...

Review of Andalucia (Spain)

I love Andalucia.

Advantages: Easy to reach
Disadvantages: Some local traditions aren't for animal lovers

A few years back, hubbie and me travelled around Southern Spain for a week or so. I can tell you about some of the places we visited, and I can also tell you about the emergency room of the big hospital in Grenada, but more of that later... PLACES TO VISIT Marbella - Other than the exclusive club complex and a load of tourist shops and eateries, there's nothing left of the original small fishing village. The major highlight of the area has to be Puerto Banus. Here you can sit in the waterside cafes and restaurants to watch the stinking rich parade themselves. Not forgetting their boats, and in some cases, small ships. The shops here are set in charming little alleyways, and I heard one woman comparing it to "The Lanes" in Brighton. I kinda got what she meant, but I still think she was missing the bigger picture somewhat. This ...
