My journey through the Channel Tunnel

Advantages: 35 minutes crossing time. Quicker to continue your journey the other side.
Disadvantages: More expensive and no restaurants.

I have crossed the Channel on many occasions, both using the ferries and the Channel Tunnel. I prefer to use the Tunnel but I think that it is better to buy the tickets before you travel as I have found it cheaper than buying them at the terminus. Unfortunately there is no where to buy food and drink on the train and so it is advisable to buy a take-away meal/drinks/snacks from the tax-free shops in the waiting area before you board. Both the English and French customs are on the departing side of the Channel, therefore when you disembark there are no customs to go through. I have found it quite easy to drive on and off the train, as you are marshalled to a compartment for the duration of your journey. You can however, walk along the train using access doors . Toilets are available on the journey. In my view it is faster than using ...

Review of England to France - Channel Tunnel

Tunnel or Ferry - handy for both

Advantages: proximity to cross-channel choices, new, good staff
Disadvantages: close to the motorway so some rooms could be noisy

**Reasons for choosing this hotel:** Holiday Inn Express is my cheapie hotel of choice at the moment and this was convenient for our ferry departure from Dover early on a Saturday morning. I know, I know it's right next to the Channel Tunnel but it is only about 15 minutes to the ferry terminal. **Booking:** I booked on the Holiday Inn Express website which was quick and easy with immediate email confirmation of the booking. The cost of the room was £49.00 including complimentary breakfast for a Friday night in early July which I thought was great value. **Arrival:** The hotel is signposted as you come off the motorway but it does feel like you've gone too far down the road and missed the turning - just keep going as this new hotel is at the end of the road, situated right next to the old Channel Tunnel Exhibition ...

Review of Holiday Inn Express Folkestone Channel Tunnel

Travelling through a tunnel under sea

Advantages: Could be good value, frequent, simple to book and travel, comfortable, fast
Disadvantages: Price strategy, the unnecessary waits, the width for some vehicles, no scenery, nothing to do on the train

This opinion is on the Le Shuttle service operating between Dover and Calais. There are two services that operate through the Channel Tunnel, the Eurostar and Le Shuttle. The Eurostar is a passenger service operating between London Waterloo and Paris or Brussels and Le Shuttle (it may be called Eurotunnel now, but it says Le Shuttle on the trains, so there!) is the service for passengers with cars. I traveled on Le Shuttle on my way to Spa-Francorchamps and here is my opinion on what is probably the best way to get to France by car. >>Destination This service operates between Dover/Folkstone and Calais/Coquelles (sorry for any typos), basically it brings you a few miles inshore or both countries and these are the only options. The signs are clearly marked on the M20 and it’s not too far off the motorway. It also is not too ...
