Forest the Rowardennan Hotel has breathtaking views of Ben Lomond, Loch Lomond and the mountains to the North. Located on the famous West Highland way, the Hotel is a noteable milestone on the long route. Located virtually at the base of Ben Lomond the Rowardennan is the ideal place to meet fellow travellers and share tales of adventures over a malt whisky. The Rowardennan has 13 bedrooms over 3 floors including 10 double rooms and the Ben Lomond suite. Each room has been decorated and furnished in a traditional style, giving a country house hotel atmosphere. Many rooms have spectacular views of the Loch or Ben Lomond.
Advantages: Possibly the best hotel you will ever stay in! Disadvantages: None
...This has to be one of the most beautiful and romantic places to stay in the World let alone Scotland. Set on the banks of LochLomond, this cabin style lodge hotel has everything you could wish for. I stayed here in February this year on the eve of my bithday. We stumbled across it while tring to find a place to stay on a tour round Scotland and boy am I glad we did. The prices were higher than we had been paying (£150) but thhis included a three course dinner and the best room I have ever stayed in. The room was all open plan with a low partition separating the bathroom from the bedroom/lounge. A fantastic large bed, leather chairs, tv and balcony looking out on the loch. The bath/shower was automatically set for a set time/temperatures all you had to do was press a button and the bath would fill to the right level! Brilliant...

Advantages: Peaceful, senere, secluded, restful. Disadvantages: Can be a bit difficult to get to if you don't drive
...Lomond is also where the famous Rob Roy MacGregor hid out, and there is a little cave where he kept his hostages which you can visit. It is on a steep bank along the lochside between Rowardennan and Inversnaid. It's wild walking up here, so make sure you go prepared! There is also his cave, which is really just a crevice in the rocks where he maybe hid from the Redcoats, and this is about a mile past Inversnaid.
The historical connections with the area are fascinating, and there is no much more than this to occupy your mind when you are visiting - from the geology of the area: the line of the Highland Boundary Fault is visible if you stand at the top of Conic Hill, near Balmaha at the south of the Loch all the way through to more modern pursuits like Golf and water sports. For those who want to simply relax, there are spa hotels, gentle...

Advantages: Quality food, bustling atmosphere Disadvantages: Can get overcrowded
...La Scarpetta, Balloch Road, Balloch, LochLomond, Scotland G83 8SS, Tel 01389 758 247, is a traditional Italian Restaurant situated near the banks of LochLomond.
The restaurant is very popular with both locals and tourists, and therefore booking in advance is recommended. The bustling restaurant does create a good atmosphere, however this can sometimes start to feel a bit overcrowded, as though a few too many tables have been squeezed in.
The food is traditional Italian and a good quality and variety on the menu.
What we had to eat :
On our last visit I had homemade pate, which was delicious but rather heavy, while my husband had parmesan soup. Not being the greatest fan of this type of cheese I thought sounded it pretty horrible, and was expecting something which looked like floating toenail clippings, but when it arrived...
