Advantages: Good hotel well situated with good facilities Disadvantages: Service could be better
The Royal Garden Hotel is a five-star hotel situated on High Street Kensington. Although fairly centrally situated prospective users who wish to use the tube should be warned that the nearest station, High Street Kensington, although not too far away does have a couple of very busy and inconvenient street crossings to negotiate.
The reception area is very large. The staff are reasonably efficient but not particularly friendly. You ... ...have been disappointed. I think you are entitled to get something really special in terms of top class service when paying that kind of money. The Royal Garden Hotel just needs that particular bit of fine tuning to make it a great hotel. It isn’t quite there yet.

The reception area is very large. The staff are reasonably efficient but not particularly friendly. You do not get the impression of being a valued customer nor does there seem. The height of the area and its whiteness does create an impersonal look as well, perhaps this rubs off onto the staff.
The room itself was good. Spacious, with plenty of mod-cons, air conditioning, fridge internet point and one of these televisions that shows films, can play videos and dvds and allows you internet access as well. Can probably fry an egg if you ask it nicely too. Tea and coffee making facilities were made available on request although the milk was not replaced when used and a request for more brought the intriguing reply that “all the trays were out” – presumably there aren’t enough for all rooms then! Although the bathroom was adequate there was a suspicion that the fittings. Downside? Pillows were not particularly comfortable. Upside? A marvellous view of London from the ninth floor!
The gymnasium was possibly the finest I have seen in any London hotel, possibly in any hotel anywhere. I did not use it on this visit though and there is now a spa which may have taken up part of the gym space. At some point it had links with the late Princess Diana’s personal trainer. There was a huge variety and number of state-of-the art training equipment and needless to say it is excellently maintained and staffed.
The restaurants/bars were slightly disappointing. The much vaunted Tenth Floor restaurant and bar has strange opening hours and does not even accept hotel guests after 10.45. A waste of a view. Bertie’s Bar is nicely decorated with a good selection of drinks and efficient service. When I was there the entire Australian rugby union team was in attendance which made the place feel a bit cramped not surprisingly! I did not use the Park Terrace in the lobby area but it appears to be a typical hotel café-cum-bistro.
I was able to get the room for £150 which made it good value for money. Had I paid the rack rate of over £300 per night I would have been disappointed. I think you are entitled to get something really special in terms of top class service when paying that kind of money. The Royal Garden Hotel just needs that particular bit of fine tuning to make it a great hotel. It isn’t quite there yet.
Advantages: Beautiful viiews, great location, lovely food Disadvantages: At full price it would seem a lot -look for deals
The hotel has a good website, with pictures and lots of details, which I found useful when choosing it. I was able to make a booking over a last minute site, which meant the price for a double room was £130. This was fine, but had I paid the full rate I wouldn't have thought it worth it. The hotel is about 10 minutes walk from High Street Ken station. The hotel has an impressive facade and a beautiful lobby area. We found staff to be attentive and ... ...Hyde Park, which is right next to the hotel. Perfect for a stroll. Equally the hotel is also close to a bust shopping area, including high street names such as Monsoon, Marks and Spencers etc. Harrods is also walking distance away, as are several of the museums. So the hotel is a great base. The room itself was lovely and all the touches of luxury that you hope for at this cost.
We had lunch in the restaurant downstairs. There was an excellent wine ...

I'd Do Anything........ to see Oliver on stage again.
This past weekend my husband and I went to see Oliver the Musical in London and what a fantastic show it was. The production is at the Theatre Royal on Drury Lane with the closet tube station being Covent Garden. The theatre itself is one of the old ones in London, over 200 years old we were told so it looks very classical and interesting inside. It's quite small compared to somewhere like the Paladium but this to me makes the production more intimate and you really feel like you are part of the show and watching it as if you are a bystander in old London town.
We had tickets in the stalls which were near the back. When I bought them they did inform me that they were partial blocked view seats and it is actually printed on the tickets that the circle overhang may obscure your view ...
Advantages: It's pretty impressive, especially if you're interested in botany of course, good facilities Disadvantages: Rather over-priced at the moment, not as spectacular as you're lead to believe
botany then this is all interesting and certainly worth seeing, but I question whether, for what you can see here, it really represents good value for money (for a single visit) when compared to places like Kew Gardens (in London) or The Royal Botanical Gardens (in Birmingham), both of which are considerably cheaper. If the price doesn't rise when they've completed the third biome it will of course represent better value, though £12 still seems a little steep? of course, you could bike it and get in for £9!
Disabled Access
Considerable thought has been given to this, and while there are certain areas that cannot be reached by wheelchairs, there are very few of these and contain nothing mind-blowing that someone in a wheelchair would be dismayed at missing. We had to unexpectedly ask for a wheelchair for a family member - got one ...
