Who are they? The national airline of Jordan. Nope I had never heard of them either till I worked (albeit briefly) for them. They are due to come become part of the One World Alliance.
Where do they fly? All around the world, mainly the Middle East (Iraq!) and Europe and Asia and the USA. RJ has quite a wide route network through code sharing with different airlines.
The planes: They have a fleet of 24 planes, mostly Airbus. They are generally ok bit cabin cleanliness is not particularly great. There is Crown Class and Economy Class onboard. Crown Class is business class and first class merged into one.
Check-In: Long queues and some quite abrupt and rude staff at Heathrow! It was quite unorganised. It was a bit better at Amman.
Punctuality: I did not find that my flights were punctual due to delays on the ground.
Boarding: Boarding was done from the back forward in London with priority for Crown Class passengers. In Amman it was much more of a free for all but they had allowed a passenger in a wheel chair to board first. We were met by the cabin crew and assistance was giving in finding seats.
Safety Video: This was quite standard. The cabin crew did not point out the exits or demonstrate life vests like on every other airline I have flown. As I was seated by an emergency exit returning to London I was briefly shown how to use the exit by an air hostess.
Entertainment: At the time of writing only one aircraft had the seatback televisions. These are pretty good though with a wide selection of English and Arabic films (and with subtitles) music (either of the Arabian kind or popular Western music, none of which I liked!) and games. Unfortunately is it very temperamental so be prepared for faulty sound or the screen turning black half way through the flight. There is also a map showing where you are and the direction of Mecca. There is also a thrilling in flight magazine that took me all of 5 minutes to read through.
The service: Compared to the UK cost-cutting airlines RJ offers a good service in flight with hot towels even in Economy! The food is quite bland and you have the standard fish, chicken or beef. It's quite edible but not particularly wonderful. I had the fish twice, on the flight to Amman it was some kind of seafood in a bright yellow sauce and going into London it was white fish in a tomato sauce. You get the standard rice and vegetables and a stodgy tasteless cake. You also get a stale bread roll and some salad. They came round twice to do the drinks service and passengers were offered a small bag of pretzels. There was also a tea/coffee service and a duty free trolley that went speeding through the cabin.
The staff: They are a mixture. The cabin crew are a mixed bunch, generally foreign crew, especially from Ireland. On my flight home they were lovely to me as I was ex cabin crew but I found them to be lacking in warmth and not particularly interested in their roles to other passengers. Interesting as customer service had been drummed into us in training! They do wear a very snazzy red uniform with a little hat though if you like that kind of thing.
The seating: I found the seating quite good. Plenty of legroom, up to 34 inches. You also get a nice little pillow and a blanket.
The restrooms: Standard airplane lavatories, kept clean throughout the flight.
Amman Airport: The best thing about it is the Starbucks. There is a duty free selling a few English magazines, which I recommend you stock up on before your flight. There are 2 ATM's, one of which did not work. They are very strict on safety though, which is always a good thing
As an employer they are very strict and they do not tolerate anything less than perfection regarding looks in their cabin crew. No acne! Personally I would not work for them again. Such things as not being allowed to wear your uniform cardigan in flight unless you ask the in-flight supervisor or read a newspaper or a novel put me off! If you get pregnant you get grounded for a year without pay. I do not regard them as a good employer and would not recommended RJ in that aspect.
Advantages: Newish aircraft, reasonable leg room Disadvantages: Uncaring staff, repeated delays, poor food, tatty uncleaned aircraft, shall I go on?
...had a good impression of Royal Jordanian. After all, they are a "Royal" airline - as good sign. I'd read a couple of good reviews. I'd heard they were good.
Jordan is a lovely country and the people are among the warmest, friendliest and most hospitable I have ever met, so I was sure that the airline would reflect that and the people would be nice, so I felt relaxed. HA!
BOOKING
I booked the flight a few days ahead. The flight was scheduled to ... ...so I called international to Royal Jordanian in Jordan. The first time I got disconnected, the second time I couldn't get through. Finally I got through to someone who told me the flight had been delayed further, to 0015, arriving in the small hours. Also she would request a carrycot seat but could not confirm...but maybe. Is there nothing you can do? "I'm sorry". HA!
Suddenly what had looked like a relatively easy journey was begining to seem more ...

Advantages: Good service&prices, check-in facilities in Downtown Amman Disadvantages: not on time, older aircrafts
...away from Amman city.
Today, Royal Jordanian serves over 30 destinations worldwide (daily service to London/Heathrow, New York/JFK, Chicago, Munich, Frankfurt, Paris/Orly, Vienna, Amsterdam, Bangkok,Kuala Lumpur, Tel Aviv,.... and most of the Arabic countries). My experiences with Royal Jordanian

The check-in was not ... ...To avoid this airport rush, Royal Jordanian invites it's passengers to use RJ City Terminal in Downtown Amman, at the 7th circle. There people can check in one day before, are hand out their boarding cards and pay the depature taxes. At the airport, they only have to pass the passport control. Well, I used this termnal and it is a good solution for the "trouble" in the airport- and you get 15kg more free baggage allowance!

Advantages: N/A Disadvantages: No luggage, stranded internationally, no accommodations, delays, etc.
...that was our experience with Royal Jordanian Airlines began on December 20, 2007. James and I arrived at the Chicago O'Hare International Airport, ready to board our 9:10PM flight to Amman, Jordan. Checking in, we learned that the airline overbooked its Hajj-season flights, allotting a five-hour delay to our schedule. Immediately, we expressed concern for making our connecting flights to Delhi (Royal Jordanian), Bangalore (Jet Airways), and Trivandrum ... ...as doing so is "not Royal Jordanian policy." We were then shuttled to a somewhat sketchy hotel and instructed to speak at 8AM with the Royal Jordanian representative present there. He would arrange our new flights.
It is December 22, 2007 (the day we were supposed to arrive in Trivandrum). 8AM rolls around, and we make our way to the hotel lobby, where there is a Royal Jordanian representative sitting in an office, behind a locked glass door. I ...

Advantages: Love the service Disadvantages: Bit of an old aircraft
...one thing I like about Royal Jordanian Airlines is not just the colours that the aircraft is painted but the way they treat you there as well. The in-flight entertainment isn’t all to great but I have to say that the air hostesses are great and always have a smile on their face. I wouldn’t recommend going two legs of a journey like from London to Colombo via Amman. I think it may be a bit too stressful as the seats aren’t very comfortable and the ...

let's start at the airport the guy who served was clearly not english but tried so hard to sound like it I just could not understand a word. the service itself is ok but far from the best the plane was clean no delay. The flight entertaining system is the most rubbish thing i ever got a tiny screen to watch no individual screen for an international flight OMG!!! So you must watch what they decided to play on TV somes kinds of kids movie very boring ... ...is so poor only 1 channel with music the rest is arabic music and not the best. The food is average nothing too special, luckily i did arrived to Amman where i needed to catch another fly with them to Lebanon, what a wonder when I got in this plane and found out every seat have their own screen just for an hour flight. On my return fly the entertainment system wasn't working so got to spend doing nothing else than just looking out the window. ...

...I have flown with British Airways on numerous occasions and so will share my views on them.
The company:
British airways is a British company and the national carrier of the UK. They have bases at the majority of the main UK airports including London Heathrow, London Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow. They operate a fleet of 20 different size aircrafts including Boeing aircraft and Airbuses.

The airline also operate a codeshare agreement with their oneworld alliance members as well as other selected...

Advantages: Cheap, cultural Disadvantages: Boring, dusty, leering men, lack of pavements
...I was in Amman for some time with my job and I found it an interesting but also a very strange place!
Getting there: I flew with RoyalJordanian from Heathrow. British Mediterranean also does direct flights. Return flights tend to cost around £300 but if you fly with an airline such as Romanian Airlines via Bucharest you can find flight as low as £200. The flight time is around four and a half hours.
Arrival: I arrived early in the morning into Queen Alia International Airport. Everything was closed and we waited for our visas patiently. Baggage reclaim was better than the UK, quick and easy with an array of porters around to get your bags off the carousal and help you with them. Your bags have to go through another X ray machine as you exit the terminal. The airport is 30 miles south of the city and you can either catch a bus...

Advantages: Pleasant service, comfortable first class Disadvantages: Business class below par, some old aircraft
...we arrived. We were not offered any drinks later, though if we asked for something then it came.
The flight was "no smoking", as are all Syrianair flights. I didn't see anyone smoking though there was a cigarette end in the ashtray in my seat.
Summary
A real pleasant surprise. I had always imagined that Syrianair, with their ageing aircraft, would be rather lacking in comfort and service, but I was wrong. From my experiences, they are not bad and certainly make more attempt at helpful service than their neighbours, RoyalJordanian. It's a shame that the newer Airbuses are not offering the same levels of comfort in the premium cabin as the old Boeing 727s....
