This luxury hotel does cheap weekend rates, which makes it a great place for a short city-break. It is centrally located, and is just a few minutes walk from the Grande Place, the picturesque main square.
The Royal Windsor offers all the trappings of a high-class hotel: 24 hour room service, fitness club, laundry service, garage, sauna etc. etc. The multi-channel TV has pay-per-view movies and even the UK channels BBC 1 & 2. The en-suite bathrooms are well equipped and the bedrooms are generally very nice if a little on the small size. I found the room got a little stuffy but the windows can be opened and it is not too noisy to sleep with them open.
If you are lucky enough to be assigned one of the rooms on the Godiva floor then not only do you get an even more opulent room you also get free box of Godiva chocolates - alas, having booked two rooms, only one was on this floor.
The bargain weekend rate also includes a buffet breakfast; if you are used to these being miserable affairs tucked away in a windowless basement away from the proper restaurant then you are in for a very pleasant surprise. The buffet takes place in the classy 'Four Seasons' restaurant and the food is excellent and choice huge: English-style fry-up, cold meat & cheese platter, smoked salmon, fruit, Belgian Waffles...
We booked 2 rooms (One with 2 single beds, the other with a double bed) for 2 nights at the special weekend rate of 4750 BEF (approx 70 pound sterling) per room per night. Rates for the rooms during the week are around 12000 BEF.
We experienced problems trying to book rooms over the phone at the cheap weekend rate; I ended up making a reservation through expedia.co.uk approximately 2 days before arrival. I booked the rooms individually for each night as expedia always add a disclaimer for multi-night stays that the rate is only guaranteed for the first night; thus we ended up with 4 separate reservations, but I'm happy to report that the receptionist dealt with this confusion with consummate ease.
