Drinking mulled wine on the Royal Yacht

Advantages: History, fascinating information, interesting
Disadvantages: A lot of walking but that's not really a problem!

At the moment Dave has a contract in Edinburgh and I have come up to stay with him for a fortnight to keep him company and to get a break from the daily routine. For those of you wondering about Mew he has gone to the local cattery where he has under paw, sorry under floor, heating, so he'll be OK! I will be doing a review shortly! Anyway today we decided to go and see the Royal Yacht Britannia which is currently moored in the waters of the Firth of Forth at Leith in Edinburgh. When we were last in Edinburgh we drove out to see Britannia but didn't have time to actually go on board. She was moored next to a small building and car park and that was what we expected to find when we got there today. Instead we found the yacht had been moved to the other side of the harbour next to a shopping mall called Ocean Terminal, which I ...

Review of The Royal Yacht Britannia, Edinburgh

One Hel(ier) of a drink!

Advantages: Tastes crisp and refreshing
Disadvantages: none

One of my favourite alcoholic beverages of recent times is the mighty fine pear cider. I have become rather attached to the stuff and though used to love my red wine that seems to have taken a back seat. I have tried a few different pear ciders since discovering how tasty and refreshing it is and along with Kopperberg (see seperate review) this is one of my favourites. So all pear ciders taste the same, right? Erm, no. And here's my opinion on this wonderful tipple.. Price and packaging~ St. Helier Pear Cider comes in 3 different sized bottles (to my knowledge): *275 ml *500ml *1 litre The prices all vary depending on where you shop, but at my local supermarket they are 49p (275ml); £1.63 (500ml) and £2 (1 litre) respectively. The design of the bottle is nothing overly fancy (and differs in colour from the one above) but is enough ...

Review of St Heliers Pear Cider

St Helier's is a complete delight!

Advantages: Incredibly good flavour, great value for money.
Disadvantages: It's a rare treat to find in pubs or bars and doesn't get nearly as much attention as it deserves.

I've tried a fair few pear ciders in my time, but St Helier's is by far the best. Like Kopparberg it's quite a sweet cider and has a refreshing crispness to it. However, the real difference lies in the fruit flavour; it is a pure pear beverage and its intensity gives it that extra edge, making it by far the best of its kind. The only real problem is its distinct lack of advertising; there are no posters or television adverts proclaiming its greatness so it tends to be overlooked in favour of other, inferior brands. It's also quite tricky to come by in many pubs or bars but please do endeavour to find it in your local supermarket, it's well worth looking out for. An utter delight to drink. ...
