Having skied in Bulgaria for the last 3 seasons we decided it was time for a change of scenery. Given that the French, Austrian, Swiss and Italian Alps are so expensive we chose to go to the Slovenian resort of Kransjka Gora. The flight from Stansted took only 2 hours and we were soon on the road to the resort which is situated on the borders of Austria and Italy and only 40 minutes drive from Ljubljana airport. The resort appealed to our group of eight as it offered low cost, good facilities, reputable ski-school, cheap Apres Ski and other local attractions (sledging skating etc).
We stayed at the Hotel Kompas on a half board basis. The hotel was clean, comfortable, provided a good varied buffet each evening and morning. Our rooms had lovely views of the snow-capped Julian Alps. The hotel also had a pool and health spa facilities ...

Advantages: peaceful Disadvantages: public transport lacking
Kranjska Gora is situated in North West Slovenia, just 7km from the Austrian and Italian borders. The resort is the largest ski resort in Slovenia. We did not go for the ski-ing though, but as part of our summer holiday this year.
Following a 3 1/2 hour transfer from Salzburg airport (Austria) we arrived at the Hotel Alpina. The hotel is situated on a hillside with the ski runs behind it. From our room we had excellent views over the town of Kranjska Gora. Kranjska Gora is a small town with basically one main street and a town square, but along the main street are most of the facilities you could need; post office, supermarkets, car hire, hotels, bars souvenir shops, banks, travel agency and tourist information. Part of the street is pedestrianised and leads into the square where the Church of the Assumption is situated ...

Rubens Barrichello, a very popular figure on the Formula I circuit,is now driving for Ferrari who are,of course,a very competitive team. The Brazilian is burdened by having to shoulder Brazilian expectations of glory following the sad demise of the great Ayrton Senna. That a hard burden to shoulder for anyone.Essentially Rubens,who has driven for Jordan and Jaguar among others,is a mature,experienced, and competent driver. He is cool under pressure and probably has the temperament to be second fiddle to Michael Schumacher. It is no easy task being in the same team as that flawed genius.However, I suspect that at the end of the day the killer instinct is lacking and I feel that Rubens will be near to the top but will not quite make it all the way. Perhaps he is not really ruthless enough. Time will tell! ...
