Wow. I can honestly say I have never, ever paid for poorer food and service in my life. But I am getting ahead of myself.
Appearance
From the outside, this looks a charming, village centre real ale pub in so-called 'Historic Egham". How wrong that impression is. The decor looks to be around 20 years old. Despite boards advertising a number of real ales, there was but one session ale (at 3.8%) on, and nothing else. When I asked, no apology was given. The ale was in decent condition, but was nothing special. They also served lager, and some wines, though not a huge selection, from what I could tell.
Before ordering food, I should have looked around. There was a grand total of one table occupied with diners. This was at 1.00pm on a weekday - surely a prime time to attract a lunchtime crowd. Sadly, I ignored the little warning ...

Following Dick Turpins route south-west slightly, going through Egham onto the A30 you can visit the world famous Wentworth golf club. But please visit Virginia waters and Windsor great park. This outstanding area of countryside is a pleasure any time of the year. Most of Viriginia waters is man made and the lake is self regulating in its construction.

seeing and doing include watching pageantry enacted through the Changing of the Guard which takes daily at 11.00 am from April to October.You will see a lot more if you go into the castle grounds. Mind you you wont be alone since thousands of North American tourists will be aahing and ohhing at the site of the Coldstream or Irish Guards performing their duties. Also head for the river and enjoy a boat trip along the Thames,if you have time,visit Legoland, and go to Runnymede where King John sealed the Magna Carta in 1215.
To gt to Windsor by rail from London there are services to Windsor & Eton Riverside by SW Trains with a journey time of around 50 minutes from Waterloo or a shorter 35 minute ride by Thames Trains from Paddington to Windsor Central.It is a lovely little town and well worth a visit. ...
