Underrated Estate car

Advantages: Well designed estate car, reliable
Disadvantages: No longer made

In my time I have had 2 Renault 21 Savannas, firstly a 5-seater and following that a 7-seater. The first thing you have to say is the 7-seater was an extraordinarily good design and unlike many estates with 7 seats had three forward facing rows of seats. It achieved this without compromising comfort, access or storage space. That it?s replacement the Laguna estate cannot do this is indeed a retrograde step. The 21 Savanna was available with a range of engines but both the cars I had had the 1.7litre engine. The car was relatively light so unladen with just the driver or with one passenger the performance was adequate but hardly sparkling. When more heavily laden or when towing the performance tailed off sharply. The Savanna was quite long to accommodate the extra line of seats but overall the car handled well. Handling was ...

Good riddance

Advantages: 7-seats, massive boot space when seats folded
Disadvantages: everything that can go wrong has!

When I met my fiance he had a lovely G-reg Fiesta that happily sailed through every MOT, hardly had a fault on it, cheap to run and was reliable. Unfortunately we found it a tight squeeze to fit our 4 children in it safely, being as though the youngest (my daughter) is 3 and is still in a car seat, thus leaving only 2 seats and belts free. Having a brain wave one day and being totally fed up with the kids moaning and arguing over who was sitting on whose lap we decided to try and find a suitable 7-seater to match our financial budget. After many miles, money spent on the Auto Trader Magazine, surfing the net and every other way we could think of looking out for a new car we struck it lucky with a garage who specialises in 7-seaters and people carriers. We had found a Renault 21 Savanna GTS 7-seater estate for £995. It was ...

Who want an espace ?

Advantages: Cheap car. Good 7 seaters !
Disadvantages: Renault main dealer lake of interest...

Seriously? The savanna is seriously not the new looking car around with the 18 inches wheels and a 4 x 400 watts stereo. It doesn't come with leather (nor clim! thus you could have them install), doesn't do 0-60 in 3 secs. That doesn't matter, there's no 7 seaters car who can do that speed anyway ! ok, the 'new' espace is better looking! and the roof is way higher than your head.. I personaly don't drive with a hat on so I don't really care ! If you have the espace 2x3x2 seats version; or just have a look in one, I dare you to find the lugage's place ! (it must be hidden behind the last row of seats somewhere :) I bought my savana on ebay for £180 ! with no MOT. Nevermind, the car needed the electrics cable re-wired in the boot (no reverse/stop/position lights were working). Took me 3 hours to reconnect them ! I ...
