I am based in Edinburgh, for personal reasons, it became necessary for me to travel to London last week. Naturally, as a student, I seeked the cheapest way to travel. I researched many different methods - the cheapest I came across in each method were - Train: £41, Coach: £50, Plane from Edinburgh to London (Not Luton): £72.50. I then discovered that if I flew from Prestwick, I could do so from from just £4.50 (plus tax) each way.
Even when I added on the trainfare to Prestwick (£9.15), which was 50% less because of a deal between Ryanair and the airport, this was still by far the cheapest option.
Ryanair fly to Stansted, which is 40 minutes by train to the centre of London, so I was aware that I would need to add on another train fare - it was still going to work out cheaper.
The outward trip went perfectly smoothly. No hassle, no delays. The return trip was a totally different story.
It all started when I missed my train to the ariport and ended up being 5 minutes late to check-in. Which forced me onto the next flight. Unbeknown to me, the excess charge for changing flights whatever the reason was going to be £30.
Problem - I didn't have £30 with me. I couldn't get hold of parents or relatives to borrow a credit crd number either. It is only to my sheer luck that an extremely generous woman saw the state I was in by this time and gave me the £30. (If you are reading, thank you!)
Problem solved - I was on the next flight - no real harm done. It was important for me to be back in Edinburgh that evening as I had to be up for an exam the next morning. I thought I would make it - emphisis on the 'thought'.
Once boarding the plane, 15 minutes after sitting there we were informed that the engines had failed and we would have to wait for another plane. We were given no further information for another 45 minutes after this.
Eventually, we boarded a second aircraft and took off. To my horror, I suddenly worked out that by the time we landed and I got the train from the airport into Glasgow, I will have been too late to catch the last connecting train into Edinburgh.
When I presented my problem to a Ryanair staff member, I was told exactly that - it was my problem. Apparently, Ryanair are a "point to point" airline, and will have no responsability after they get you to your final AIRPORT destination.
I had to be in Edinburgh that night, because of my exam the next morning. I went ahead and got the train into Glasgow, as I knew there was a bus at around 12mindnight. Of course, my run of bad luck continued - and I missed the last bus.
That was me. Well and truly stuck - no where to go, no where to sleep. Thank god EasyEverything is open 24 hours! I should also add that there had been a major football game in Glasgow that day, and there were people about which, well, lets say, I'd rather weren't there...
It's most likely, that my sequence of events was very unusual, but from my experience, I won't be using Ryanair again.
So basically, to sum up, I would like to thank Ryanair for my cheap flight... and for most likely failing my exam due to a lack of sleep.

I have been in the same situation. The cheap flights are okay when everything goes ok but It cost me an extra eighty pounds as I missed my connection when the plane diverted to East Bournmouth and had to pay extra for a change of flight and had to stay overnoght in a hotel.
