Ryanair have made crossing the Channel a lot more comfortable than their rivals Brittany Ferries. I would certainly see the advantage of a 35 minute flight as opposed to 6 hours on a swirling sea, and when I booked with them, I found this very simple.
I typed into Google "Ryanair.com", and their site was easy to follow and my booking was made with their secure server online. Tickets arrived shortly afterwards, and I would say that their service so far was superb.
On arriving at Brest Airport, I found their staff helpful and friendly and the one thing that bugged me was that my hand luggage was heavier than their allowance, because I was only going for a short trip and only had one bag with me. I had to buy myself a carrier bag, load all the stuff I needed on the plane into it, and put the rest through as baggage travelling separately to me.
Walking across the tarmac, we were greeted by friendly faces, and coffee was freely available on the plane. The flight was smooth, and the service that I received was excellent.
I expected to be jam packed into a cheaper plane with less legroom but in fact was pleasantly surprised that I had adequate space. As this was a short flight, we did not eat but drinks were available and service was friendly.
The flight was on time and there was no unecessary waiting.
Safety was explained as usual at the beginning of the flight, and I always find these demonstrations of safety features to be more troubling than helpful on any airline.
There was a disabled passenger in a wheelchair and they coped very well with loading him into the plane and back to the terminal at the other end.
SO WHAT IS THE SNAG WITH CHEAP FLIGHTS ?
Availability is the major one. You book online, and are happy with the arrangements that you make. The price of £14 each way is pleasing, and then whilst you are in the UK, Ryanair decide to change your flight back !!! simply because they do not have enough demand for that particular flight. Not my problem I would have said, but their attitude stinks. Their answer to your dilemma of having to take paid accommodation for the night is "Take it or leave it".
Yes, their staff are helpful. Yes, their flights are very good, but their organisation is flawed in that they regularly change your flight at a moments notice and unless you have the means to read your emails whilst you are away, you are liable to turn up at the airport and be disappointed as I was.
Hurrah for the prices, hurrah for the service on the plane, and the smoothness of the crossing, but a big thumbs down for availability of the flights they promised !!!
