Sacre Coeur affords a magnificent view of Paris. The ascent is somewhat steep, although there is a funicular railway for those who would have difficulty walking up. The church itself is attractive without being spectacular, and it's worth a brief look inside. The view is the main advantage - one can really appreciate the Eiffel tower from there. The way up is rich in shops selling tacky souvenirs and food that looks as if it has been on display for some considerable time. Males should beware the aggressive sex-show touts around the Boulevard de Clichy, at the bottom of the hill, who will attempt, sometimes physically, to entice you into one of the ranks of seedy establishments in that area.

Sorry to only rate this as F.H. Having just come back from Paris and been to Sacre Coeur, I feel it is worthy of a lot more praise than you have given it. I know it is all subjective, but I found the whole building and experience abosultly wonderful. What struck me was the silence within, and the fantastic stained glass windows. The steps leading up to the Sacre Coeur was full of artists and musicians, which, to me, added to the appeal. Nice try. See ya, Anna
