Saeng Thong Hotel, Cha-am

Advantages: Relaxing, beautiful scenery
Disadvantages: Quite remote

...I stayed at the Golden Sands hotel in October 2004. We paid £800 for a package holiday, spending 3 nights in Bangkok and 7 nights in Cha Am at the Golden Sands. The hotel was large but consisted mainly of German or Russian guests. We were the only British couple staying at the hotel which wasn't really a problem but it is always nice to meet new people on holiday. The hotel is about 2 and a half hours drive from Bangkok airport (our transfers were included so I would not be able to tell you how much this journey would cost you) Cha Am is a very small village and is close to Hua Hin. Our hotel room was spacious and had beautiful views across the pool and across to the beach. The hotel pool was literally 50 metres from the beach. ...I had to attend a conference in Tel Aviv, Israel. The conference was in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, so it made sense to stay there! In Israel the currency is the New Israeli Shekel, which in this review will be called NIS. When I changed my money at Heathrow, the exchange rate was 7.79 NIS to the £. Some of the cost was in US $ so the exchange rate that was on my credit card statement was $1.81 to the £ *** Before I got there *** I booked my stay on line at the Intercontinental hotels web site, check the web site for the latest deals www.ichotels.com I didn't know how to get from Tel Aviv airport, to the hotel, so while still in the UK I sent the hotel an email asking if there was a courtesy bus. Advantages: Located on Jumeriah Beach, comfortable, relaxed and friendly atmosphere, SUPERB VALUE for money and quality for a 4 star hotel
Disadvantages: none really - if you get a sea view room

...-storey concrete building and although it doesn't look too exciting from the front, which faces a desert road, once inside and around the back you have the complete view of the beach line from the rear of the hotel. I was pleasantly surprised! At the time of visiting (January 2002) there were only a further 2 hotels after the 'Oasis Beach Hotel', however with the rapid pace of development and construction particularly in the tourism industry I am sure there will be more hotels along the beach -and I wasn't wrong! I have re-visited Dubai's Jumeriah beach again in January 2006 and there were literally hundreds of multistorey residential buildings under construction behind the Oasis Beach Hotel.
