Saint-Julien-le-Pauvre, Paris

Advantages: Lots to see and do, the metro,
Disadvantages: Eating out can be expensive, everyone else is there too (everyone loves Paris)

...anyway so it was not a big issue for me. The most fascinating thing about the Centre Pompidou is the building itself. It seems like they have turned it inside out so there are pipes, steel, escalators etc everywhere…the building stands out in other words. This area is not very far from the shopping center Les Halles and I think it is one of the few places in Paris where we felt a bit uncomfortable with our surroundings. With the crowds I guess it is an ideal place for pickpockets to operate. But there are some fun things in the area…like the colorful fountain on Place Igor Stravinsky, the public clock "Le défenseur du temps" or the Fontaine des Innocents which stands on the site of a former grave yard…I will get back to this when we talk about the catacombs. ...of those they are delicious. La Sainte-Chapelle A jewel of gothic architecture, the Sainte-Chapelle was built in the thirteenth century by order of Saint-Louis to contain the crown of thorns. The high chapel with its 600 sq. metres of windows, 2/3 of which are authentic, offer one of the most complete sets of stained glass window from this era. It’s ceiling is covered with magnificent paintings. Classical concerts are sometimes given in here and it always tremendous to listen to. 4, boulevard du Palais, 75001 Paris Métro : cité RER B Saint-Michel L’arc de triomphe I haven’ t ever visited it, so I made some research to tell you more about it Commissioned in 1806 by Napoleon, shortly after his victory at Austerlitz, it was not finished until 1836. ...not mean that other sights would not be interesting or enjoyable, and also what I enjoyed may not be what you will enjoy. I intend in the future to write more detailed opinions on individual sights in Paris, which is why I have included little detail here. These are suggestions for places I would visit, in ranked order of priority (best first): ~ Le Tour Eiffel (Eiffel Tower) ~ The traditional sight associated with Paris, the Eiffel Tower is a definite must-see. Walk down the Champs de Mars or up to the Trocadero on either side of it for photos, and then if you can afford it (it is rather pricey, about 65F (£6.50)) go up the tower itself. ~ L’Arc de Triomphe (Triumhal Arch) ~ Located at the centre of ‘La Place Charles de Gaulle’, at the end of ‘Les Champs Elyssés’, this arch boasts splendid architecture...
