Advantages: Beautiful surroundings and great Chinnese food for anyone. Disadvantages: You need a car and good directions to find it.
...I'm working in the Catskill region of upstate NY, and I have just visited Woodstock. In Woodstock I had my first Chinnese in the USA. It's called The Little Bear restaurant situated behind The Bear Cafe.
I had a great meal, the atmosphere was typical NewYork, the place sits on a brook surounded by wildlife and loads of green plants.
You don't have to book in advance, I went with a group of 6 at night and it was busy we waited for 10 mins to be seated.
A lovely cosy restaurant where you can sit and relax while eating great food....

...The Helmsley Park Lane is ideally located - in particular for the first time New York tourist who wants to experience the city's charme. Opposite the hotel lies Central Park and to its right the infamous 5th Avenue with Tiffany's, FAO Schwarz and Saks no more than 5 minutes away. Close to the hotel is also a wealth of good restaurants -the Hard Rock Cafe and the Harley Davidson Cafe, as well as some more unique and fancy establishments on 57th Street.
The outside decor of the hotel is disappointing compared to the other places on Central Park South. The hotel lacks the large and luxurious entrance that one may expect to be overwhelmed with by a hotel of its class.
The standards rooms are superbly clean (with twice daily maid service). If you are looking for a true 5 star experience, however, you may be a little disappointed...

...There is no doubt about it: Drucker's gateaus are the tastiest, best quality, I have ever eaten, anywhere, bar none. And I've traveled broadly; had coffee and cakes in Vienna, Milan, Paris, Brussels, Copenhagen, NewYork, Los Angeles etc. I don't know of any other cafe, restaurant or patisserie where the selection and quality is as high. The great thing is that you can be in almoist any town in central England and Drucker's has one of their traditional Vienese patissseries. The atmosphere is just right; and I particularly liked the faux modern masters, which are painted in the style of, say, Renoir. They take a well known work by the painter, but change the location and subject matter to a cafe, or simlar to portray people relaxing over a coffee and cake.
The service is quick. The prices reasonable....

If you want to stay in Central New York then this is the hotel to book. It is actually IN Times Square! It's a huge modern hotel with over 45 floors so some of the views are great. There is a bar at the top which is a lovely place to have a drink,... more
The New Yorker is in an excellent midtown location with the subway (lines A, C & E) literally steps outside. Being on the corner of 8th Avenue and 34th Street this meant good access to Macy's, Empire State Building, Madison Square Gardens and the... more
Postmodernism, eh? It's a funny old bag of fish. Even the holier-than-thou critics don't quite seem to know what it's all about. They argue whether it's
a) a revolt against modernism,
b) a progression of modernism,
c) both of these and more
or d) more
