We personally enjoyed sitting at the harbour of an evening and just relaxing and taking in the view. We also was able to go on a Whale Watch tour which was brilliant, especially as being from the United Kingdom these things are fantastic to take advantage of when you are able to. Also if you manage to get around the area of Boston in the Fall the colours of the trees are breath taking and a sight to be seen.
We stayed at the Hawthorne Hotel which is on the common of Salem. It is a lovely place to stay, clean with helpful staff and a lovely setting for the bar/restraunt area, not forgeting that is is right at the heart of things so making your visits to the various sites well within your reach. There are plenty of places to eat out and all very reasonable in price as well as good size portions.
We visited during October which is the main part of Salem's calendar what with Hallowen celebrations, I just wish that we could have been there on the 31st October to enjoy all of the festivities that are arranged by the town.
We did however manage to get a trip o "SpookyWorld" which is a theme park only open during October for the festivities. It was great and we really enjoyed ourselves, as well as being able to meet a couple of stars from Horror movies, have our photos taken with them and also get signed photographs from them.
All in all a lovely Town to visit and I look forward to maybe making the trip again in the not too distant future, and would recomend it to anyone who is looking for something different but relaxing
Advantages: lots of character Disadvantages: lots of witches
...is based on the infamous Salem Witch Trials which took place in 1692. We visited during our tour of New England. Salem is easy to reach being only a short drive north of Boston. It is a ‘walking town’, which is situated on the coast and has a variety of things to offer. Like many American towns there is an excellent visitor centre situated on the outskirts of the town. Here you can get information about accommodation, discount vouchers ... ...those wanting more information the town offers a huge variety of museums and exhibits. We visited the Witch Museum – a strange thing to do on holiday perhaps but it helped to understand the town’s history. Extracts from Arthur Miller’s The Crucible are re-enacted here (these brought back memories from my schooldays) I personally found this place a bit spooky. During our visit we encountered many people walking around dressed up, ...

Salem, Massachusetts, situated about an hour drive from Boston is famous for many things, not least its witches! However, there is one site with over 330 years of history: The House of the Seven Gables Historical Site.
Perhaps not surprisingly, the cenrepiece of this historical ... ...hundred years earlier.
Visit Salem and you will discover its history... and its secrets.

I visited Salem with my wife and the drive into town was depressing. The approach is industrial and ugly. When you get to Salem though you are in for a treat. The town is not very big but what it lacks in size it makes up for in character. The town is well know for the infamous witch trials but it also has a maritime history which is the poor relation, something the local authorities are trying to address this fact.
There are a variety of tours ...

Advantages: Full of malls, museums and restaurants. Disadvantages: Many road works make it difficult to get around.
Boston and the surrounding areas are steeped in History. Being the center of the American Revolution, many English will cringe as they visit Boston Harbor and the site of the 'Boston Tea Party'. Being an Englishman myself, it is interesting to sea the city where my forefathers made the mistake of underestimating the American people.
Boston offers far more than history. Although there are several historical places to visit, Boston has beautiful countryside and many attractions. Cape Cod is an hour away, offering some wonderful beaches and seaside attractions. Salem, famous for Witches and witchcraft is very close too.
Boston also boasts some of the best Universities in the country with .
Boston is a very clean and beautiful city with some great malls and even better restaurants. Across the river are many art and science museums ...

Are you a real ale drinker?
Have you visited any of the real ale pubs in Peterborough?
If the answer to these two questions is "No", then I recommend that you visit The Palmerston Arms, a.k.a. The Palmy.
This is a unique pub in Peterborough that it serves every week, up to 15 real ales, plus real cider all straight from the casks, not a hand pump used on any of these. Most weekends they have the 15 beers, which is usually 5 Bateman's, XXXB, XB, Bateman Mild, Bateman Salem Porter and the seasonal brew from Bateman's. They have as a regular Oakham's White Dwarf, Castle Rock Harvest Pale and the rest will be?
They do serve, as a new feature, Leffe beer and Kriek, from a hand pump but that is the limit.
The Palmerston Arms has been a public house in Peterborough along the Oundle Road for more years than I would like to ...
