I recently came back from a week in Salou (May 2007). I was in a fortunate situation to have a friend give me one of his timeshare weeks, so accomodation and flights (courtesy of Ryan Air) were very cheap. The appartment was OK, but considering it was part of a timeshare I was disappointed with the fact it had no air conditioning - I was boiling!
Salou itself was a great town. About ten miles from Reus airport (30 Euros in a taxi), it is situated about 70 miles south of Barcelona. It is quiet, quaint and very relaxed in it's atmosphere. It's town is minimalistic, but in saying that was never 'over-crowded'. The beach is fantastic with it's golden sand, and stretches along the coast for miles.
With Barcelona about 90 minutes away by train, it makes the perfect stay for a relaxing week.
