.... This is horrendous. The conditions of living are very primative, the only way in or out is by donkey,or 4 wheel drive then a hot walk for a couple of hours. I am so glad we saw it for ourself. We the went on to Sainta Helena de Urien where we based ourselves for 2 nights in yet another "camp" We were surprised that the owner spoke perfect English. Sainta Helena is 15km from the Brazilian Border, if you intend to cross it ensure you have your Yellow Fever Certificate with you as without it you will be turned back. The only thing which spoils the view is the Electricity supply to Brazil. Then on to Brazil for the day and back to pick up a light plane in the middle of nowhere to take us to Canaima national park. Advantages: fascinating shows
Disadvantages: which make me sad

...in such deplorable circumstances? Well, birds like breeding, don´t they? In German there´s a verb ´to bird´, a vulgar expression for frequent sexual intercourse. :-) And then the shows! So parrots are intelligent animals, good for them, but do I have to see them riding bikes, roller skating or doing calculations? Equally horrible are the dolphin and sea lion shows fascinating as it is what these animals have learnt to perform. Why do these animals which swim for hundreds of miles in the ocean have to be kept in a small basin and made to jump, salto and tango (!) to blaring music, every day, four times a day? I´ve read somewhere that dolphins having the opportunity to perform regularly are healthier than the ones which don´t; if that isn´t cynicism I don´t know what is; the healthiest dolphins are surely the ones which swim freely in the ocean...
