California in the eyes of an exchange student
Advantages: breathtaking Disadvantages: slums in some parts of the city
...its astonishing view, strolling around San Francisco with its thick cultural atmosphere, shopping in the streets of Beverly Hills in Los Angeles, California has an endless list of what one should write in a short review. To me, as an exchange student, I particularly admire the socio-cultural aspects of Californians. Laid back and knows how to have a good time are among qualities I enjoyed from the Californians. The life here in California, especially ...

For the film fans
Advantages: Includes many classic movies Disadvantages: A bit anorakish
...thinking about when I visited San Francisco & during a half day tour of the city had pointed out to me one or two locations were some of the classic movies of the 1960s & 1970s were actually filmed.
It was only when I looked into it for more details I realised many more films have been filmed in San Francisco. For any film fans who will be visiting the city here are locations of some famous films that were either filmed in the city or in the surrounding ... ...that have been set in San Francisco & they are not in any particular order.
BULLIT
The iconic film with an iconic actor (Steve McQueen) driving around in his iconic car (Ford Mustang) featuring the most famous car chase in modern films.
Filmed in San Francisco in the spring of 1968 there are loads of locations in the city where it was filmed.
Part of the film featured the Daniels Hotel which in fact was actually the Kennedy Hotel at the end of ...

If your going to San Francisco
Advantages: A Great city full of life and fun Disadvantages: Expensive
...where you want to go.
Getting around the city is best done n either a Tram or trolley bus.
The trams cost 2 dollars a ride but you can get a day pass for about 6 dollars. Unlimited use for the day and you get to see a lot of the city. Expect to be a bit crowded. Walking is an option from Union Square but its very hilly so expect to get tired.
Taxis are expensive and slow in the traffic.
Eating Out.
-----------
Eating can be cheap but most places ... ...and at a good price. There is lots of it too.
The Italian cafes are very nice to eat in. If you would like to sit outside though, you must book in advance. Tables inside are freely available.
Around the Square there are many nice Steak Houses and burger bars. Some cheap, others not so. Shop around. Lori's Diner can come highly recommended.
Planet Hollywood is also nice to eat and not as busy as the one in London. Tables are not a problem.
Down ...

An Early Aw The Best
Advantages: Good preparation will always mean a good year Disadvantages: All the good Chinese take aways are closed at this time of year
Chinese New Year, also called the Spring Festival, is the time of year when friends and family feast in celebration of throwing out the old and welcoming in the new – something we could all do with every now and then. Most people start getting ready for Chinese New Year a month before. It is important to have all bills paid and the house spring-cleaned ready for a fresh start. Start the New Year with the house in a mess and your account in the red ... ...months! Traditionally Chinese New Year was a month long party, now it tends to last four or five days. Food is extremely important and before it is eaten it is offered up to the Gods. Food at the feasts can vary, but it normally includes steamed puddings, fried dumplings, seeds, rice balls and sweetened fruit and vegetables. Remember, however, that the ingredients have a symbolic meaning. Jiaozi dumplings, for example, are boiled in water and served ...

Laid Back Sophistication.
Advantages: Class, style, elegance, location. Disadvantages: Price, snobbery.
...The Clift Hotel in downtown San Francisco is an experience one should witness providing of course you are beautiful enough to enter.
Notably the ''Redwood Room'' a high class bar in a very congenial atmosphere.
Once past the host who may vet you, the bar staff are actually very friendly and although the drinks are expensive by American standards, it's certainly worth it - about $ 15.00 for a glass of pinot noir.
For a pretentious eating and drinking ... ...an awful lot of disposable income floating around.
Seating is most comfortable, laid back in a red leather sofa one has a terrific vantage point of observing the varied clients - groups of pornstars, celebs, jack and jill on honeymoon, sailors just arrived at port, gigalos etc, etc, etc. ...
