If you are going to San Francisco
Review of Francisco Bay Inn, San Francisco by
Quakerman
Advantages: Location, value for money, free parking
Disadvantages: Noise
...day to kill in San Francisco (lucky me!) before catching an early morning flight, I needed a hotel, and decided to stay in town rather than near the airport. I searched on Expedia and found the Francisco Bay Inn. One of the features I was looking for was free parking, and the Francisco Bay offers it. There were cheaper options, but not when you add $10-$20 to park your car. Expedia gave me a rate of £39, prepaid, and I took it.
Another advantage ... ...wireless broadband internet.
The Francisco Bay also offer family suites and free tour pick up. Public transport is right at the door.
One other thing, which is only temporary - they are busy renovating! Just after 5pm there began a great banging and thumping in the room above us. After a few minutes, I went up to see what was happening. Two workmen were dismantling the room! I went down to the office, and in fact met the chap who had checked us ...

Fantastic location, basic rooms
Review of Holiday Inn Express San Francisco-Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco by
maisiemouse123
Advantages: LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION
Disadvantages: basic room, no feeling of security in hotel
...the main reception of the holiday inn (nice building), but on getting our room keys we were told to cross the road to the Express building (carried mine and my daughters bags - no offers of help at all!)
On walking around the building, crossing the street and entering the other building you walk through a dennys (handy ) which is inside the reception area of sorts (The entrance is the same as dennys, however the walkway does allow you to go staright ... ...also stayed in a few Holiday Inns, but this one was the only one I didn't feel safe in - Imagine one of those dodgy thrillers, where you have two cops looking for a suspect in a dodgy apartment building somewhere random in America (you must have seen one of those movies!) Well getting back to the point that's how the lift and corridors seemed, dated, old, but generally clean. Well if you lived somewhere like that you'd want loads of security, The ...

Hotel Nikko
Review of Hotel Nikko, San Francisco by
LightyN1
Advantages: Fantastic spec, high class hotel with excellent service
Disadvantages: Ever so slightly out of the way
The Hotel Nikko was one of the best I have visited in the US.
We relocated to the Nikko, because our original hotel was right next to a tramline on a busy street and they were very unhelpful when we asked to move room.
The contrast when we moved to the Nikko couldn't have been greater. It was like an oasis of calm in the middle of frenetic San Francisco.
The staff were friendly and courteous and we spent a few very enjoyable days in and around ... ...touch. I think the hotel is Japanese owned, which would explain the decor. In addition, our room had great views over the city, even though the location is quite low down on the skyline.
The only tiny drawback was that the location is slightly away from the main tourust areas. However, it is within easy walking distance of Union Square and no-one in their right mind would want to go to Fisherman's Wharf more than once, so I wouldn't count the location ...

A good night's sleep and a great breakfast
Review of Holiday Inn San Francisco Airport North, San Francisco by
Quakerman
Advantages: Close to the Airport, free shuttle, excellent breakfast buffet included
Disadvantages: None that I could detect
...trip, we opted for the Holiday Inn in Burlingame, about 2 miles from the airport. My first thought was "Ho hum, Holiday Inn, the McDonalds of hotel chains." But the price was excellent ($59 booked through a travel website) and it included breakfast, so my second thought was, "I'll give it a go."
I was planning to stay there after a tortuous trip that involved me flying from San Francisco to New York, then to Toronto, then back to San Francisco, ... ...hotels near the airport, The Holiday Inn has a free shuttle, every 20 minutes or so. I went out and waited for it and I must have just missed one, because I waited almost 20 minutes. So it was 10pm by the time I made it to the hotel, and dinner became pizza delivered to the room, as all other options were closed. (As well as the hotel restaurant there are half a dozen good options within walking distance.)
My first impressions of the hotel were ...

Need a place to stay in San Francisco?
Review of Castle Inn, San Francisco by
great_badir
Advantages: Good value, comfortable, close to attractions, great location
Disadvantages: Basic, but not necessarily a disadvantage (see review)
The Castle Inn is a small B&B/motel and one of the best kept accommodation secrets in San Francisco. My wife and I stayed there for our belated honeymoon for just over a week in April this year, encouraged by all the great reviews we had seen on various websites. Whilst it can't compete with the likes of the Sheratons and upper-end Holiday Inns in the luxury stakes, it has plenty of its own plus points setting it apart from the more well known hotels.
... ...Castle Inn is its location - on Broadway in the Russian Hill district, it's set away from the main tourist hubs. Instead, you're right in with the locals and treated to a more natural SF, a world away from the city's most famous landmarks. Not that it's miles away from anywhere, mind - Chinatown, Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39, the Financial district and Embarcadero, Telegraph Hill, Union Square, Yerba Buena Gardens, the Sony Metreon, Cannery Row ...
