High tea and rose petals
Review of The Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco by Cat199

Advantages: Superb customer service, high quality dining options
Disadvantages: Nothing will ever live up to it? It is expensive

...big wedding as much as the next person. However when it was my turn, I did not want to spend a year planning anything large and instead chose to go overseas to celebrate only with immediate family. The first six days of our combined wedding and honeymoon trip were to be spent in San Francisco. I was looking for somewhere special to stay because one of these days was to be the wedding day. There are a handful of five star hotels in San Francisco but ...
...I was won over by the impressive white façade complete with roman pillars. Booking, prices and pre-stay We did not book the hotel directly ourselves but rather this was part of a Kuoni holiday. I have to admit I am not sure exactly what rate we got but it was somewhere between £200 and £250 per night. I felt that this was reasonable as I had carried out some research on-line and the best rate available for a standard room was about £230 ... Read review

Comfy Days by the Bay
Review of Comfort Inn By the Bay, San Francisco by rusticgirl

Advantages: Clean, simple, cheap, good location
Disadvantages: can be noisy in front of hotel rooms

...pleasent 6 nights in the Comfort Inn by the Bay in sunny San Francisco. The building itself is typical of hotels within this chain, simple, basic, no frills, but comfortable and pleasent enough to stay in. The entrance lobby is not vast, but big enough that it can easily accomodate several groups of people as you wait to check in/check out, etc. It has a few casual sofas, some hardback chairs, payphones and plenty of leaflets and similar about all ...
...handy, and we found them very helpful. Being our first time abroad we where confused about the telephone codes and numbers, but they patiently went through it with us on more than one occasion! There are only 2 lifts, which I must admit did prove to be a pain. We were on the ninth floor and sometimes seemed to wait for ever until one came up to our level, and even then, it was sometimes to full for us to get in. They did have stairs, but these were ... A bit of old-fashioned glamor in the city
Review of The Kensington Park Hotel, San Francisco by scotrail

Advantages: Great location, excellent service, top-quality bed
Disadvantages: Is downtown so not that quiet

...It is part of the Personality Hotels group, each of which is modeled on a different concept, the idea for Kensington Square in particular being traditional glamour, its slogan being "Luxury in the heart of the city". And luxurious it is indeed. We stayed for one night only, directly following on from a rather skanky beach front motel in Santa Cruz, so maybe our goalposts had been moved somewhat, but it really was everything you could ask from a hotel ...
...offer valet service parking on the premises for $35 per day. LOBBY/WELCOME The lobby looks impressive, all marble and polished brass, and although they do not have a person opening the door for guests, the front of house staff were extremely welcoming as soon as we approached. According to the website, "The Concierge Staff pride themselves on arranging entire itineraries from transportation to dinner reservations and theatre tickets". I suspect ... Read review

Go West to the Westin
Review of The Westin St. Francis, San Francisco by belfin

Advantages: Gorgeous rooms and decor, friendly staff
Disadvantages: Stay here for a treat as it is more expensive than other hotels.

...stay on our tour of the United States. Our first destination was to be San Francisco and we did quite a bit of research ourselves, as well as taking advice from our long haul specialist at Thomas Cook. We wanted something central, near to a tram stop for easy accessibility and exploration of the Wharf district, somewhere near some of the famous stores but most importantly, somewhere where the staff would make us feel special on our first couple of ...
...seemed to be the only hotel that met all those needs and I have to say we weren't disappointed one bit. ***The Location*** Union Square in San Francisco is the heart of the city and this is the only hotel that overlooks this beautiful area. The square is also surrounded by stores such as Saks and Macy's and has a main tramline stop that can take you down to Fisherman's Wharf area for a small fee. The hotel also has valet parking but this can be ... Read review

Pickwick Hotel, San Francisco
Review of The Pickwick, San Francisco by draigcochport

Advantages: Cheap, Convenient
Disadvantages: Prehaps too far from Fishermans Wharf if only a stop-over break?

I stayed at the Pickwick with 3 friends in April 2007. It's a very pleasant hotel situated within walking distance of the cable car turnaround and Union Square, and can't be faulted for it's price given the fairly central location for shopping/business. It's probably about 20 minutes to Fishermans Wharf via cable car from here. The general area felt safe at night, it was very, very quiet in terms of people being around - probably due to the fact ...
...few homeless people near the hotel, but having visited many cities on our US tour, it's pretty obvious that San Francisco is one of the worst hit places. It seems that someone wants a dollar every 50 yards in San Francisco. The room which we had was situated at the rear of the building away from the road, so was quiet. Being an 'old' hotel dating back to the early 1900's, the rooms are all generally quite small and compact, which we were told about ... Read review
