A good cheap option
Review of Grant Plaza, San Francisco by Saltire

Advantages: Price, location
Disadvantages: No breakfast, slightly grubby

The Grant Plaza Hotel in San Francisco is located at the gateway to the Chinatown area of the city, and is predominantly Chinese-run. It is a quiet, unassuming hotel, which is clean, basic and most importantly a cheap place to rest in a busy, expensive city! The rooms are accessed by elevator and a security door prevents any unwanted entry 24 hours. Many of the rooms face onto the street which can be very busy and therefore quite noisy. The rooms ...
...exploring the city. Most rooms are en-suite with colour TV with cable. The service and staff is faultless, as you will find across the area. The Plaza hotel offers only bed (no breakfast), although there are many cafes locally which offer cheap food (and plenty of it!). (while there, do explore the Chinatown area - it's great for souveneir and gift shopping!) ... Read review

A San Frantastic Boutique Hotel
Review of Petite Auberge, San Francisco by MarcoG

Advantages: The price, the location, the staff, the rooms, everything
Disadvantages: ...our shower was like needles

...hotels, and came across The Petite Auberge, it wasn't the cheapest we found, but it had an appealing charm that won us over, so we booked. Company info: The Petite Auberge is part of the Joie De Vivre chain, I found this information on their website: "Joie de Vivre Hotels is California's largest boutique hotel company. Started in San Francisco in 1987 by Chip Conley, while in his mid-twenties, Joie de Vivre has built a reputation for creating ...
...the "tourist hub" is. The Petite Auberge is found on Bush Street, in between Mason and Taylor street. It's right round the corner from Nob Hill and Union Square, which are some of the famous areas of the city. It's also only a few blocks away from the Powell Street Cable Car (realllllly cool), the Financial District, Chinatown, North Beach and the general city life. Location rating: 10/10 The Lobby: Once you go up the steps and into ... Read review

High tea and rose petals
Review of The Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco by Cat199

Advantages: Superb customer service, high quality dining options
Disadvantages: Nothing will ever live up to it? It is expensive

...big wedding as much as the next person. However when it was my turn, I did not want to spend a year planning anything large and instead chose to go overseas to celebrate only with immediate family. The first six days of our combined wedding and honeymoon trip were to be spent in San Francisco. I was looking for somewhere special to stay because one of these days was to be the wedding day. There are a handful of five star hotels in San Francisco but ...
...I was won over by the impressive white façade complete with roman pillars. Booking, prices and pre-stay We did not book the hotel directly ourselves but rather this was part of a Kuoni holiday. I have to admit I am not sure exactly what rate we got but it was somewhere between £200 and £250 per night. I felt that this was reasonable as I had carried out some research on-line and the best rate available for a standard room was about £230 ... Read review

Comfy Days by the Bay
Review of Comfort Inn by the Bay, San Francisco by rusticgirl

Advantages: Clean, simple, cheap, good location
Disadvantages: can be noisy in front of hotel rooms

...pleasent 6 nights in the Comfort Inn by the Bay in sunny San Francisco. The building itself is typical of hotels within this chain, simple, basic, no frills, but comfortable and pleasent enough to stay in. The entrance lobby is not vast, but big enough that it can easily accomodate several groups of people as you wait to check in/check out, etc. It has a few casual sofas, some hardback chairs, payphones and plenty of leaflets and similar about all ...
...handy, and we found them very helpful. Being our first time abroad we where confused about the telephone codes and numbers, but they patiently went through it with us on more than one occasion! There are only 2 lifts, which I must admit did prove to be a pain. We were on the ninth floor and sometimes seemed to wait for ever until one came up to our level, and even then, it was sometimes to full for us to get in. They did have stairs, but these were ... A bit of old-fashioned glamor in the city
Review of The Kensington Park Hotel, San Francisco by scotrail

Advantages: Great location, excellent service, top-quality bed
Disadvantages: Is downtown so not that quiet

...It is part of the Personality Hotels group, each of which is modeled on a different concept, the idea for Kensington Square in particular being traditional glamour, its slogan being "Luxury in the heart of the city". And luxurious it is indeed. We stayed for one night only, directly following on from a rather skanky beach front motel in Santa Cruz, so maybe our goalposts had been moved somewhat, but it really was everything you could ask from a hotel ...
...offer valet service parking on the premises for $35 per day. LOBBY/WELCOME The lobby looks impressive, all marble and polished brass, and although they do not have a person opening the door for guests, the front of house staff were extremely welcoming as soon as we approached. According to the website, "The Concierge Staff pride themselves on arranging entire itineraries from transportation to dinner reservations and theatre tickets". I suspect ... Read review
