The Clift, San Francisco
Advantages: Location, stylish Disadvantages: very thin walls between rooms
The Clift is a beautiful and stylish hotel. It houses the stunning Redwood Bar which has gorgoues cocktails and you're surrounded by grand wood panelling and very cool plasma screens. The hotel also has the Asia de cuba restaurant which is great and the portions are big enough to share, although I don't think its quite as good as London's Asia de Cuba.
The staff are also friendly as we had backpacks from our round the world trip and were treating ... ...5 star hotels would do.
On the downside, although the rooms very beautifully done with a lilac and cream colour scheme, the walls are VERY thin between the rooms which is shame - so you can hear your next door neighbour's TV and anything else they might be doing! ...

Hyatt is high on our list
Advantages: Close to the Airport, free shuttle Disadvantages: Rooms overlooking the Atrium can be noisy
...it came up with the Hyatt at a reasonable price. Hyatt's are usually four or five star luxury establishments, so I thought that $89 for the room was a good deal. I also happened to have a voucher for an upgrade to an executive room. So we booked.
The shuttles to the hotels are easy to find, and there is a staff member on duty who will tell you when the next shuttle to your hotel is due. We waited about 10 minutes. The bus goes to three hotels, arriving ... ...hotel, with 793 guest rooms on nine floors arranged around an internal atrium. Check-in time is 3 pm, while checkout is noon
The hotel has three restaurants, the Swiftwater Deli for breakfast, which serves Starbucks coffee, Knuckles Historical Sports Bar, which serves burgers, salads, sandwiches and snacks, and the Swiftwater Cafe, which offers Californian cuisine in a more formal setting.
The lobby is very luxurious, with lots of brass and wood. ...

Old Railroad Hotel?
Advantages: Location, Luxury, Guest Services Disadvantages: None
...luxury and location with the Renaissance Stanford Court Hotel. The Stanford Court is actually part of the Marriott group of hotels. Its official classification is four stars although we booked it via Virgin Holidays, who actually classify it as five stars. While there is probably some official reason why it is only four stars, for me it had all the ambience and service of a truly five star hotel. I shopped about like crazy for rates, both on and ... ...rate of £95 room only per night for a double room (whether sole or twin occupancy). This seemed to be the best deal at the time, however Marriott's website can offer some good rates, with rooms from $179 USD at the time of writing, even for very late availability. It doesn't take many snapshots on the official hotel site to entice the potential traveller to this hotel. Firstly it was in the ideal location at the corner of California and Powell Streets, ...

High tea and rose petals
Advantages: Superb customer service, high quality dining options Disadvantages: Nothing will ever live up to it? It is expensive
...big wedding as much as the next person. However when it was my turn, I did not want to spend a year planning anything large and instead chose to go overseas to celebrate only with immediate family. The first six days of our combined wedding and honeymoon trip were to be spent in San Francisco. I was looking for somewhere special to stay because one of these days was to be the wedding day. There are a handful of five star hotels in San Francisco but ... ...I was won over by the impressive white façade complete with roman pillars.
Booking, prices and pre-stay
We did not book the hotel directly ourselves but rather this was part of a Kuoni holiday. I have to admit I am not sure exactly what rate we got but it was somewhere between £200 and £250 per night. I felt that this was reasonable as I had carried out some research on-line and the best rate available for a standard room was about £230 ...

The Dakota hotel: cheap hotel in the heart of San Francisco
Advantages: Cheap, clean and location, location, location! Disadvantages: old-fashioned, elevator from hell
...for work for 4.5 months. The first two week I spent in the Dakota Hotel, in search for a spot of my own.
Dakota hotel caught my eye for a number of reasons: the price and the location. Normally, you'd have to rob a bank or two to stay in a hotel in the heart of San Francisco for two weeks. Luckily, Dakota offered an attractive rate for long-term stays. I thought it would certainly be worth a look, given it's excellent location.
Location
... ...blocks from Union Square. In the street itself, there are a number of restaurants and a small supermarket. The hotel is on the edge of what are considered to be the good neighbourhoods in San Francisco. Two blocks down, you'll find the so-called Tenderloin- a place where you wouldn't want to be found dead, but probably might ifyou were to walk there alone at night. Ok, that's a bit of an exaggeration, but trust me: it is not the place to flaunt your ...
