Ain't nothing Stupid about Bubba Gumps Shrimp! Advantages: Fantastic Seafood, good service Disadvantages: Can be busy, and take time to get in! ...the bay! Bubba Gumps is a themed restaurant, based on the Forest Gump movie. Bubba was Forest's friend and the two of them planned on having their own Shrimp boat when they got out of Vietnam. This restuarant stretches the theme by pretending to be a restaurant thats part of the Bubba Gump empire. The restaurant's are decorated like fishing shacks, and they host a lot of memorabilia from the movie. To get attention for another drink or any thing ... ...from "Run Forest Run" to "Stop Forest Stop" and ANY waiter/waitress will help you if the Stop sign is showing. But back to reality. What's it really like? The food is predominately seafood, but you can get burgers, steak, ribs, etc too. Portions are large and prices are reasonable. Especially right now with the pound/dollar ratio. Of course Shrimp is the speciality and they have some amazing things to try. Smints or altoids reccommended Advantages: Garlic, tasty, drink lots Disadvantages: Bad breath Definately not to everyones taste - one for garlic lovers. Every recipe made in this easily located restaurant in Little Italy, is heay with garlic. The butter is garlic butter, garlic olive oil. When there we had 40 clove garlic chicken, garlic and aubergines and more - with, you guessed it, garlic. I think they also had garlic ice cream for dessert. But we opted for coffee (of the normal variety). Once was enough for me Advantages: Fun theme, especially if you like the 70s/80s Disadvantages: Not a great neighborhood, you have to enjoy the theme ...and I had gone to Polly Esther's one night just for fun, and let me say once was enough for me. First, it's not really in the best part of town. We had bussed it down from the University we attend, and then walked a couple of blocks after stopping for dinner near by. It's pretty close to Market Street, but in a somewhat run-down part of the city. It definitely doesn't stand out or really make itself known. We found it by the address as opposed to ... ...outside when we went, around 11 pm, just a few folks outside smoking. Admission was $10 the night we went -- definitely not worth it. After showing ID (21+), you head up a flight of stairs to pay the admisison and then enter the club. It's actually two clubs in one -- a 70's club upstairs and an 80's club below. We didn't make it downstairs because it's hard as hell to find it, and when we did, the line was packed along the narrow stairway. Flippin' Swanky Advantages: great atmosphere, interior design to die for, fantastic cocktails Disadvantages: the clientelle can be a bit...erm...pretentious While there are loads of high class glitzy eateries and nite spots in San Francisco, nothing's closer to the word 'swank' than the Backflip. Part bar - part club - part restaurant (and actually tasty), this little beauty is nestled in the sometimes unsavory area of Tenderloin. Modelled around an underwater, aquamarine theme, with a genuine pool adjacent to the dining room, the place somehow manages to not make blue depressing. With huge chairs, ... ...crotch, retro lighting fixtures and beautiful glass walls, one would think the mood would be perfect for the drink of your choice. My view on Kowloon, Hong Kong Advantages: all you want in one place Disadvantages: the humid hot weather in crowded streets ...have a thick wallet, then Kowloon has many high class hotels to choose from. Hotels which will be situated at the heart of Kowloon some of which will have breath-taking views as you look out the window. However, those of you with a thinner wallet like myself, well don't fret, as I have stayed at the Metropole Hotel, and I managed to get a packaged holiday - this tends to let you experience the joy of living in a top class hotel without breaking your ... ...literally applies to you in Kowloon if your are a shopper! Kowloon has many designer labels boutiques, and the service that comes along with the boutiques is first class.
