AVERAGE HOTEL DOUMO

Advantages: Fantastic location
Disadvantages: In need of refurbishment

Having an early morning flight back to Edinburgh, and looking to spend our last night of our recent trip to Italy in Pisa, we chose the Grand Hotel Doumo. Why? Well, if you're looking for a hotel which is ideally located for all that Pisa has to offer, you'd be hard placed to find a more suitable one. It's literally a few steps from the famous tower and in fact, many of the rooms have a magnificent view of the tower and Doumo (hence the name). that explains the Doumo part of the name...you could hardly be more accurate. And describing it as an hotel is pretty spot on too. But Grand? Me no think so. The hotel may indeed have been grand once upon a time (possibly around the time the builders had forgotten their plumb line and were erecting said tower with all haste), but it sure ain't now. Dated, tired and in need of a general ...

San Luis hotel

Advantages: sports facilities, clean hotel, good food, friendly staff
Disadvantages: quiet for teenagers at night, lack of beach

Having just returned from Hotel San Luis We would like to say what a great time we had. The hotel is kept spotlessly clean especially as we went in August when it is at it's busiest. The food although a bit repetitive is excellent and there is always something you like (even when you have fussy children)! The rooms are cleaned thoroughly daily and clean bed linen and towels changed daily too. The entertainment is very good generally and the children's animation is excellent. We went all inclusive and this is well worth considering as drinks can be very expensive. Ice creams are free as well as unlimited drinks, crisps, nuts etc. Staff are very friendly and helpful and you can hire beach towels for a refundable deposit of 10 euros each. Sports facilities are a godsend for teenagers as is the spotless pool area. We will definitely be ...

My Angle on PISA

Advantages: Big WOW factor
Disadvantages: None

, and stress. In their place, we had moonlight, backlit world heritage monuments, lovers strolling hand in hand, and the gentle murmur of happy people eating and drinking at the pavement cafes. We joined them. One of my abiding memories of Tuscany is this: Sitting at a restaurant terrace with the Leaning Tower so close, I could have splashed Chianti and Carbonara on it (I'm a messy eater) whilst leisurly working my way through an fabulous 3-course meal with delicious wine and coffee for a fraction of what it would cost in the UK, even in a pub. In conclusion, Pisa is well worth visiting. Don't expect the cultural attractions of Florence, or the medieval idiosycransies of San Gimangio, but the Tower has to be one of the wonders of the world. Even if you don't climb it, just to walk around it and try to comprehend the sheer impossibility ...
