I believe that Sanremo is one of the most famous small Italian towns in the whole world, thanks to the Festival of Italian songs', and to its Casinò.
Personally, to be sincere, I don't like Sanremo so, it is just a small touristic town that fits expecially for rich tourits, and that has the target of rich tourists, as they disike the so called 'once a day tourists'.
So, they keep really high to 'choose' among tourists. For example, in Sanremo there are a lot of hotels but no chep ones, there are no B&B and it ia very difficult to rent a room or a flat (and in any case the prices are incredibles!).
I personally have visited Sanremo several times, but I never have eaten in city: the prices of the restaurants aren't a good value for money.
Sanremo is a small town with delicious narrow lanes and street, but the beauty of this medieval structure is completely lost thanks to a real invasion of ciosks, drin stalls, bookstalls, souvenir-stalls, and so on.
They sell everything in these beautiful lanes, and I can assure you that the show isn't one of the best! More of this, it is quite impossible to walk, 'cause of the crowd that in summer overrun Sanremo.
In my opinion, a very sad show: Sanremo doesn't look like a city but only like a huge market.
There is only one monument in Sanremo that deserves a visit, the church of San Siro, constructed at the beginning of the XII century it on the basis of the remaining structures of a paleocrhistian church. The best thing that can be seen in this church is a bas-relief on the left lateral door, carving directly in the stone.
Speaking of the sea I must notice that the beach of Sanremo is narrow crowded of tourists and dirty: there is only e small part of free beaches... just where the drainages give to the sea...
The very interesting thing that Sanremo offers is the possibility of visiting a protected international marine oasis (the ares among Corsica, Liguria and the south of France), where you can see dolphins, whales, and other protected races.
Another positive characteric of Sanremo is the climate, so wonderful that in January there are the so called 'corsi fioriti' (flowers parades') with typical wagon. The tradition of the "bloomed courses" is of XIX century and it is a part of a similar tradition, that of the 'flowersbattlesì.
Of these ancient traditions you can find the tracs in "Sanremo in flower", in the "Battle of the flowers" of Ventimiglia, in the "Festival of lemons" of Mentone and in the "Battles of flowers" of Nizza.
The other very important attraction of Sanremo is of course the Casinò that is always opened, with free entrance for the whole week, a small ticket to pay just during the weekend (12,00 Euros). Only adults can enter the Casinò and the men must wear a jacket.
So, I should tell you that Sanremo doesn't deserve to become the aim of a touristic tour, but that is interesting to see, just as a curiosity.
Advantages: Ummmm......can't think of any......oh yes - it was nice and sunny Disadvantages: Where do I start?
...decided to venture across. San Remo sounded like a great place and I wanted to get some Italian coffee so we headed for it.
As soon as we passed over the border I noticed a distict change for the worse in the general cleanliness of the towns compared to the French side. There was, what my dad described as a 10 mile long traffic jam taking us to San Remo. Granted the traffic jam WAS along the sea front and it was scenic but in 30 degree heat, it ... ...San Remo about 45 minutes later to find a town that looked like something from the dark ages. There was rubbish in the streets, the houses were dirty and all the buildings were coated in a dark browny grey dust.
Not recommended at all. Although it was the height of the season, the restaurants and bars we almost empty and the only signs of life we saw were a group singing at a seafront bar. There were, I noticed, a distinct lack of public toilets ...

"Rain Man and many other fascinating items.
We drove down the coast to Nice through long queues, Nice has good shops, a long palm lined promenade, but not a very good beach, mainly pebbles.
we stayed overnight in a Villages Hotel for 180 FF per night for a room for three, 25 FF each for breakfast.
The following day we set off for Monaco and Italy but while driving through Monaco and listening to Radio Riviera, (great radio station) we learned that Tim Henman was playing Tennis in the Masters Tournament in Monte Carlo that day, we just had to go and watch and support "our man"..it was baking hot and Tim lost but it was a great match. Then due to our tennis stopover that left us with little time to spend in Italy, we headed for SanRemo where we had a very disappointing meal before heading home, back to Provence where we fell into our ...
