From the moment we arrived at the site the omens were not good. Someone decided to place a youth at the entrance to direct new arrivals. Unfortunately, despite lots of room inside the park, this bright spark decided to stop everyone in the actual entrance, this resulted in the small road outside becoming gridlocked in a matter of seconds.
Once we managed to finally get into the park we were confronted with what appeared as a ghetto for caravans! The access road to the rather small pitches was narrow and not helped by the fact that most occupants were forced to park their cars half on the narrow road due to the small pitches. The next problem was trying to reverse the caravan onto the pitch! Some conifer trees planted between the pitches combined with the narrow road and parked vehicles meant it was impossible. Luckily helpful souls from a nearby pitch manually pushed out caravan into position.
A trip to the toilet blocks revealed that they were not only old and worn but also in poor repair and dirty. If you were lucky enough to find a cubicle with a lock that was not broken you would be lucky if toilet seat was still in one piece and even luckier if there was any toilet paper to hand!
The club room was very small, very old, had no air conditioning and not many seats or tables. It was normally made into an obstacle course by the push chairs that were left lying around the dim and dingy interior. With 500 touring pitches and hundreds of statics, there was no way that all the visitors could get to use all the facilities they had paid for.
The indoor swimming pool was again tired and dirty, (the drains in the chaining area appeared to have been blocked for some time and hence you were forced to wade in ankle deep water. The pool itself was so cold that my children and my wife all agreed that the sea was actually warmer to swim in. We left the pool when my youngest daughters lips went blue. (I kid you not!)
My youngest daughter decided to have a pony ride whilst there. The staff were very offish spent their time chatting to each other and it only lasted about five minutes and cost £5.
All in all this is the worst campsite it has ever been my misfortune to stay at. With this sizable site and 500 touring pitches brining in about £25 per night this alone is bringing in excess of £12,000 a day with the statics, amusements restaurants, bars and shop brining in even more. It’s a shame these vast profits are not used to at least keep the park clean let alone perhaps improve it.
Needless to say we cut our losses and left early. During our stay we did not find anyone staying there who had a good word to say about the place.
