After debating for a while Blackpool seemed to be the best place for a girlie weekend away! If its good enough for hundreds of stag and hen holidays every weekend then its good enough for me!
Now for finding a hotel. After searching numerous hotel websites i came accross the Sandhurst Hotel. Thier website is www.sandhursthotel.com
--Prices-- For a single room prices start at £16 pppn depending on what time of the year your going. We went late June and paid £18 pppn. This price includes breakfast so is very good value for money!
--Location-- The hotel website has directions you can dowload or you can easily use an online route planner or a good old a-z. The hotel is around a 10 minute walk from South Blackpool train station and is pretty easy to find if you have the directions handy. There is a 2 minute walk to the Blackpool Pleasure Beach, its so close you can hear the screams of fear from the people on the rides. The beach and south pier are within 5 minute walk. Tram stops are 5 mins walk onto the main road.
--Hotel-- The hotel itself is very different from the other hotels on the road. It looks very up to date with its black background and red writing and looks newly refurbished. If checking in you need to use the bell as the door is shut most of the day. The bar is on the left hand side as you walk into the hotel and is pretty small with room for only around 10 people to sit down. Not too many people were in the bar when i arrived so there wasnt much of a problem with its size. The dining room is also on the ground floor of the hotel. There is around 8 tables each sitting betwen 4 and 6 people. The hotel doesnt have a lift so if stairs arent your thing then definately ask for a room on the ground floor as there are alot of stairs. The entire hotel is very well decorated and very well looked after.
--Rooms-- We shared a double room which was quite small. In the room there was the bed, a wardrobe, kettle with tea/coffee/sugar/milk and a bathroom with shower and a loo. The wardrobe also have a dresser with a large mirror. Although the rooms were small they seemed more cosy than tiny. The bed was very soft and there were enough pillows for a small army. The tea and coffee was filled up daily. The bathroom was also pretty small but was big enough to move witthout too much pain. Towels and 2 bars of soap were provided in the room. The shower was very temperamental, trying to find a happy medium between freezing and boiling took around 20 minutes!
--Breakfast-- This is where the hotel excelled itself, the breakfast was great! It is only served between 8.30-9.00 so you have to be quick although it is definately worth it! A selection of cereal and fresh juice is on offer. The you have sausage, bacon, hash brown, tomatoes....the full works. Along with tea coffee and more juice, all included in the cost of your room!
--Other bits and bobs of info-- You are given 2 keys when you arrive, one for the front door and one for your door. The walls between rooms are very thick so chances of waking someone up next door is slim. Although, the walls between the hotel next door and your room (if your on that side of the hotel) are extremely thin so you have to be quiet at night! Check out time is 10am :( The people that run the hotel are extremely helpful, even letting us leave our bags in the hotel after we checked out until our train later in the day.
