I stayed at this hotel last year. I had gone to see a show in St. David's Hall and decided to stay at the Sandringham Hotel because it was so close to all amenities. It was literally down the street from where the show was, in St. Mary's Street, so when it was late at night, I didn't mind traipsing (sp) back to the hotel.
The first impressions of this hotel is quite nice. It looks quite attractive outside. As you step inside it does however look slightly dated. There were racks and notice boards where you can pick up local information about the area which is useful, things to do, places to visit etc.
Something did occur to me at this point as it appeared that to get to the main foyer and reception desk, this was up a flight of stairs. I do not recall seeing a lift! For disabled people and those carrying a lot of luggage, this is an obvious problem. I may be totally wrong, and there was facilities for this, but to me they were not obvious!
Once getting to the reception desk to check in, I find that it is a friendly family run hotel. This gives it a nice "homey" atmosphere and gives you a little reassurance staying somewhere new.
There are 28 bedrooms in total, so quite a small hotel. As well as being close to the town centre it is also a very short walk from the Millennium Stadium, International Arena, Train Station, Restaurants etc. It is also a short ride from the Cardiff Bay.
Once getting to the room, I found it was very comfortable and above all, spotlessly clean. Although the decor could do with a little updating, as long as it is clean and tidy and smelt nice and fresh, then that doesn't really matter!
On arrival there was a tea and coffee tray with biscuits and included the following in the room: -
Private Bathroom Hairdryer Colour Television Heatng System and Air Conditioning Phone
As well as these, the hotel overall included: -
All items for children to include cots, high chairs etc Laundry Service Parcel Service Safety Deposit Boxes
CafeJAZZ is downstairs and they can provide a room service. This is not generally a service, but if you ask nicely (like I did :) ) then they will do so out of courtesy and add whatever you order on to your hotel bill or tab.
They have a Grosvenor Suite which is used for functions such as weddings, meetings etc. I am not sure how many people this suite would hold, but it looked quite adequate for at least 100 guests at a guess.
A lounge is also available for use which looked as though this was used more for meetings as it wasn't as large, but had the bonus of a bar.
Breakfast was lovely, Full English breakfast together with a buffet table where you could help youself to as much cereal, fruit, and juices as you liked and you could request more toast and they will do this for no extra charge.
This was quite a busy hotel, so it shows it is very popular, but it was not too noisy.
I was allowed to check in by 2.00pm but had to be out the following morning by 11.00am.
This hotel was around £65.00 for the night, which is a bargain considering it is so central to amenities in the city centre.
I enjoyed my stay at this hotel as it provided for all my needs, was convenient and the staff were very helpful. I would recommend this hotel if you were visiting Cardiff and didn't want to stay somewhere overly posh etc and I will definately stay there again!
