Advantages: baased on true story, well written, enjoyable Disadvantages: Not available in paperback until May
When it comes to wartime history it is the ordinary person’s story that I am interested in. I have read the stories of many people affected by the Second World War from British evacuees, to Polish resistance fighters and concentration camp survivors and have been fascinated by the tales they tell.
However I had very little knowledge of the war in the Nordic countries. This was rectified when I read Hitler’s Canary by Sandi Toksvig.
Hitler’s Canary by Sandi Toksvig is a delightful children’s novel based on her father’s experiences during the German occupation of Denmark.
Bamse is an ordinary nine-year-old boy with an extraordinary family when the Germans invade Denmark in 1940. His father is an artist and political cartoonist whilst his mother is one of Denmark’s leading theatre actresses ...
Advantages: Cheap, quiet, near Puerto Rico, near beach, plenty of sunbeds Disadvantages: No air con, same food every day, dirty plates, limited cooking facilities
nice little beach but there is little else in the resort - not a big deal when it is 1 Euro on the bus or 4 Euros in a taxi to Puerto Rico. No air conditioning made for some uncomfortable nights but you get what you pay for and you can hire a fan. The only cooking facilities were 2 electric rings, toaster, kettle and a fridge. This is for you if you want a cheap base in a quiet town and you plan to eat out and can cope with heat at night. Not for you if you like cool rooms, cooking sometimes, eating in the hotel or going all inclusive. ...
Advantages: Nice location Disadvantages: Infestation of Spider Ants and the incompitent action of the hotel staff
WARNING! Please read if you are intending to stay at H10 Playa Meloneras Palace, GrandCanary. We booked a week break to stay at what we thought was a 5 star hotel arriving late on Saturday night we went straight to our room which looked very nice and was well placed in the hotel 5th floor and overlooking the pool. When we woke up the next morning we noticed that we were infested with tiny spider like ants all around the room, we went to the welcome meeting and informed the Holiday rep and Hotel reception they agreed to fumigate the room whilst we were out, we found a load of these dead spider/ants when we returned so we thought this would be the last of the matter. Next day it got worse they were every where in our clothes in the safe everything we moved or touched these tiny little creatures were everywhere, again we reported it to ...
