A lovely B+B in Devon

Advantages: Convenient, friendly owners, good breakfast.
Disadvantages: A bit pricey

Last summer I spent a few days in Salcombe after my Mum had booked this place as a birthday present for me. It was my first time in Salcombe so I didn't really know what to expect, but my Mum had been going there for years so I was looking forward to discovering it. The Ria View is run by Peter & Bernice Henesey Smith. LOCATION: The Ria View is on Devon Road in Salcombe, Devon. Salcombe is a tiny town on the south coast. The roads to get there are quite windy so take care. Ria View Devon Road Salcombe Devon TQ8 8HQ (0044) (0)1548 842965 PRICES: Prices for a double room at the Ria View start at £62 per night and go up to £84 per night. This includes breakfast. PARKING: The parking at the B+B itself is very limited. We managed to get mine in but there is room for 3 cars and they can only be small cars ...

Nature at Bay

Advantages: Accessible, attractive, atmospheric
Disadvantages: Covers too small an area

a disused line in 1971. In the summer season, this offers trains drawn by steam locos chugging back and forth along a ten-mile crescent track from Le Crotoy through the inland village of Noyelles to St Valery and on to Cayeux-sur-Mer, a small shingle-beached resort just outside the bay to the south. Curiously, the railway manages to do this without impinging obtrusively on the peace of the salt-marshes. The road the joins St Valery to Le Crotoy around much the same crescent is much more disturbing to the natural calm of the area. To enjoy that natural calm to the full, exploration is best done on foot or by bike, or by the sea kayaks that can be hired locally. Horses, I believe, can also be hired. On foot, the best walk in my view is seawards from St Valery, along the fringes of the mollières until you reach to the cluster of fisherman ...

Review of Bay of the Somme

This Train will terminate sooner rather then later

Advantages: nice design, good remote, children like it
Disadvantages: too many batteries, not so cheap

quite often; lights were on and off all the time. There is a very genuine sound when brakes are applied. It is also possible to go forward and reverse. All this could be done from the remote. On the train itself you can stop and start the engine and adjust A/B channel for communication with the remote. Unfortunately, there is a downside to this cute toy. It uses 2 AA batteries in the remote control, 2 AA batteries in the train and 4 LR44 (button like) batteries in the train. When train stops working you have to find out which batteries are not working and then replace it. Whether you use rechargeable or normal batteries you have to change them quite often as train spend a lot of energy. LR44 do not exist as rechargeable as far as I know. That spoils all the fun for my son and me as well. The train is becoming more often the 'normal ...
