Somewhere an hour south of Mumbai lies Lonavala, an area of hills and valleys, a popular "hill station", a lush green oasis. It is invariably described as beautiful. Except for when it is described as very beautiful but that is usually when it is compared to the nearby city! Around Lonavala are lakes, caves, thick forests and even a peak for rock climbing. Not surprisingly, a lot of hotels to choose from.
We passed plenty of hotels on our way from Mumbai offering luxury rooms, deluxe accommodation, breakfast - even a bed! - but having stayed before at a couple of Sarovar Hotels and finding them comfortable, clean and good value, we opted for here. As we bumped along dirt tracks, doubling back behind what looked like tumbledown shacks with signs outside proclaiming themselves "hotels", we began to worry if maybe I hadn't made ...
Advantages: Good location, hygiene, food and ambience Disadvantages: Surroundings under development. Debris and litter are visible around the area.

Location: The location of this hotel on Tungarli Road was exactly what we preferred for a weekend getaway. The neighbourhood is away from main thorough fares and market places, yet easy to reach.
About 1 to 2 km from the hotel, there are several points which afford beautiful views of the adjoining valley and provide excellent opportunity for walks - both early morning and late evening. For visitors who come here without their own vehicle, autos and taxis available can be hired reliably with the help of the hotel reception staff.
Hygiene: The hotel premises were kept clean. The air conditioning was quiet and effective without giving one a closed-in feeling ...

I would never recommend anyone to visit Sahil Portico ... I had a harrowing time this weekend on 27th / 28th December. We had booked a deluxe suite for Rs.8000/- per night plus addtnl bed for Rs.1750/-. The food was just average but the most important thing was we were robbed in the night of my cellphone worth 23,000 and jwellery worth Rs.100,000/-. The general manager Mr.Subhash Jha came in after 1 hour of our complaint ... the police called by the hotel arrived 3 hours later ... our FIR took another 3 hours to be written ...
No one should visit this hotel ... IT IS COMPLETELY UNSAFE AND LACKS SECURITY ... We strongly feel that the job was by an insider of the hotel and we hope the police does a good job of getting our valuables.
