Been to Sassandra myself for many times, ik can tell you from experience that this is the whole of Ivory coast in one village.Sassandra is situated in a large bay, on de west side of the Sassandra river estuaries. On its right is a big hill with on top of it hotel La Terasse, the top notch of the village! From here you will find a beautifull horizon, overlooking the ocean, the beach, the fishing harbour and of course the lush mangrove fields and primary forests inland. Especially in afternoons, when the fishing pirogues come back with their catch, the beach is the place to be. The fishing pirogues themselves are painted as if they where cathedrals, the lady's dresses competing with the pirogues, big fishes on the beach, sharks, manta's, marlin, tuna, you name it, alltogether it's as colourfull as canival! Sassandra has quite a couple of nice restaurants, from which I especially want to name Tanti Yuyu's It's an open air restaurant overlooking the lagoon, and situated in the east side of the village. We ourselves didn't mind driving 300 miles for Tanti's faboulus poulet braisee, (braised chicken) One hint, order in the afternoon, or spend two and a half hours chatting while waiting for your food. For a quick snack Sassandra has many Maquis, were you can find all kind of sandwiches, aswell as cold beverages and cafe au lait. Also try the fried fish once, they sell it in the market next to the beach. You will get your freshly caught fish nicely wrapped up in a cone made from fresh leaves. enjoy your stay!!!!!
