Saturnions is one of only five authentic Italian Restaurants in Amsterdam. It was opened by Sebastian in 1989 and is owned, staffed by Italians. After a few years he extended the restaurant to the building nextdoor and it now has "covers" for around 100. Since its opening the staff have largly remained unchanged. Located in Reguliersdwarsstraat 5,the street that runs parallel behind The Foating Flower Market. Take the 1,2 or 5 tram from Central Station and its the third stop. Opening times 12 noon till 1am, 2am at weekends, everyday. Booking is recommended in the evening. Tel 020-6390102. There is a brash new Piizzeria that has just opened next door, so dont get confused. Inside the decor is pleasant without being over-bearing. The staff are helpful and friendly and will offer advice if you are unfamiliar with Italian food and dishes. I have been a regular since it opened having been recommened to go there by a local friend. Over the years I have sampled many dishes and have no hesitation in recommending the "Fritto Misto", a dish of mixed fried fish. This consists of a mixture of Salmon, Swordfish,Dab,King Prawns,Squid rings etc but can vary slightly depending on whats fresh and available on the day. Served with Italian bread and herb butter, fresh mixed salad and either a selection of fresh vegatables or a dish of pasta. The fillet steak with a Gorgonzola sauce is also very tasty. There seems to be a huge choice of staters and main courses on the menu. The menu is in Italian and English. Prices range from a few euro for a simple Pissa or pasta dish to around 20 euro for the more expensive fish and meat dishes. There is also an extensive Specials board that changes daily. Unfortunately this is only in Italian, but if requested the staff will explain. The wine list is a little limited and consists of a few Italian wines, but what they serve is good. There is also a house wine which variesaccording to what is available. Expresso coffee and an Ameretto is the perfect way to end your dinning experience, or you may prefere one of the many liqour coffees on offer. The whole place is clean and inviting, the only drawback is you have to climb two flights of stairs to use the bathroom. Simply the best Italian food I have ever found.

Hi Geoff - I liked your review - well done! I think that if you set your review out into paragraphs, members will start to give you higher ratings. As your review stands, the content is fine, but the layout is preventing you from gettting higher ratings. I hope this helps - keep well.
