..., as the surrounding area is beautiful so you don't actually spend that much time in the hotel at all. A day trip to Pompeii is a must, as is a trip to Positano: the land of the kaftans. My one word of advice would be not to book these tours through the operator, as they charge the earth. Instead just go and catch the bus, it is no more than 3 euros and gets you there just as fast for a fraction of the price!
This hotel is a curiosity, but most definitely worth a look!

Advantages: The view! Worth a million pounds, but you get it at a reasonable price Disadvantages: Some find rather old fashioned, but it has a certain charm

To get there costs 3 Euros on the Sita bus, and takes approximately 45minutes, depending on how daring the driver is along the hairpin bends of the coast road. When...

Advantages: Stunning views, Superb cuisine Disadvantages: Small beaches due to high cliffs
..., but then you have to deal with oncoming speeding buses.
Anyway, once you have survived the bus ride, you can calm down and relax in the isolated towns of Amalfi and Positano. Both are worth a visit, and both exude charm from their every pore.
Amalfi is the larger of the two towns and is slightly farther south. It has a very impressive Duomo, or domed church, which is distinguishable on the city's skyline from almost any vantage. The city is filled with gelaterias and cafes, and can be enjoyed leisurely as there aren't a great deal of activities outside of relaxation. The view from the beach onto the town and hills above is stunning. The mostly white buildings and impressive green valleys are the reason postcards were invented.
If you plan on finding a hotel in Amalfi and it is peak tourist season, you will definitely need reservations...
