Last summer we went on a short trip to Denmark´s captial and so we needed also a hotel for the one night that we spent in Copenhagen. After we spent some time online to search for the "perfect hotel" we found this one, the Savoy Copenhagen. We paid for one night 105 Euro (88 GBP), not much compared to other hotels in Copenhagen.
The Savoy Copenhagen is located in the Vesterbrogade 34 in 1620 Copenhagen. The hotel´s website can be found here: http://www.savoyhotel.dk/ . It has three stars.
The hotel is just a short walk away from the railway station. So when we came from the airport, we just had to fetch a train to the railway station (took approximatly 15 minutes) and then we just had to walk around 300 meters to reach the Savoy hotel. Also all sights of Copenhagen can be reached by feet from the hotel, but the way to the Little Mermaid can become a qiet far walk through the city (on the way you pass all the sights like the Tivoli, Nyhavn etc.). If you want to get to the Mermaid faster, you can fetch a bus right from the hotel to her. Around the hotel are a lot of shopping opportunities, there is everything - supermarkets, post office and several shops.
When we went to the hotel, we did not found it first. Because it looks a bit inconsiderable. From more far away you can see the Savoy sign, but when you stand in front of the hotel you hardly see that this building that looks like all buildings is a hotel. In front of the lobby is a window that looks like a shop window. But once you find out that this is the hotel, you can enter the nice, small lobby. The staff spoke Danish, English and German and was very friendly . They even did not minded that we arrived at 9:30am in the morning. We were allowed to use the hotel room immediatly and did not had to wait for the actual check in time. By the way, in the lobby is an internet terminal that you can use for free!
Our room was in the third level. To get there we could use the small elevator or walk the nice looking corkscrew stairs. The building of the hotel is already very old and you can see the age everywhere, but not because everything would be shabby or so, not at all, but the interior etc. looks like from old times. Also the size of the corridors and rooms showed the age of the buildings. The corridor that lead to our room was sooo tiny that it was impossible for two persons to walk there next to each other.
Our room, a double room with an extra bed for our 3 years old daughter, was also very small. But it was ok and gave the room somehow a nice flair. The furniture in the room was completly white and looked great. There was a double bed, the small bed for our daughter, a table, two chairs and a television. There was also a telephone, with a sign next to it that phoning from hotel rooms is expensive and that there is a cheaper phone in the lobby. The bathroom was also small and there was just a shower, but for a one day trip I do not need a bath tub. Everything was spotless clean and the beds were comfortable. The old wood windows were nice and looked good. Our view was ok, we looked into the tiny little courtyard. So the room was really very calm and we did not heard the big street in front of the hotel.
The breakfast is served in the hotel´s cellar. But it is not as dark as you might think...there are windows...at the side of the cellar´s roof. So you can see the sky while you eat :-). There was a big choice of food at the breakfast refreshment stall. There was bread, bread rolls, cheese, sausages, fresh fruits, yoghurt and much more. Everything was very tasty.
The Savoy is really a perfect place to stay for a sightseeing trip to Copenhagen. It is centrally located and offers nice small rooms for a good price.
