We went to Prague in April this year. We travelled with CzechAirlines from Birmingham airport. We arrived at Prague and we took a taxi (15 euros) from the airport to the Savoy Hotel.
Our first impressions when we entered Prague were "what have we done!!" The route took us along a road covered with graffitti and we kept thinking "please dont stop here!". Anyway we turned a few corners and the beauty which is Prague appeared. The Savoy Hotel is Pragues best hotel and its well deserved of its 5 Star rating.
The Hotel ********** The hotel has beautiful decor. It has the old fashioned feel. Large windows and drapes and everything seems to be a
deep red and gold. There is a piano player that plays at night to give it that romantic feel. Even the lift plays classical music! The staff are extremely helpful and pleasant and on arrival you get a free welcome drink of Tea or coffee.
Location ********** The Savoy Hotel is located approx 10 km from the Airport and right in the centre of prgaue. It is also right next to Prague Castle. Charles bridge is approx 10 minutes walk. The hotel is at the top of a hill so if you are intending to walk into the town centre then take good shoes. All the streets are cobbled and I made the mistake of not having sensible shoes! It is also approx 1 mile from the hotel to the Old town, and approx 2 miles to Wenceslas Square.
Rooms ********** The hotel has 57 luxury rooms. Each room has a very generous lobby area, marbled bathrooms which have a walk in marbled shower, a bath and a massive sink and mirror. There is a FREE minibar in every room - yes FREE!!. It includes soft drinks, nuts, chocolate and alcoholic drinks. This is restocked every 2 days. There is a queen size bed and because they have black out curtains you can be sure of an excellent nights sleep. There is also a DVD player in each room, PC and faxing facilities. There is a small sitting area in the rooms and also an alarm clock incase you want to get up early and enjoy the sights!!
Facilities ********** The hotel has some of the best facilities I have seen. They have a Sauna (mixed so go prepared). There is a Jacuzzi, Gym and steam room. For the three days I was there I used the facilities every day. They are impeccably clean and I felt like I had been to a health spa for three days not to Prague! The other hotel facilities include: Dry Cleaning Service Lounge Turn-down Service Business Center Concierge Wake Up Service Pets Allowed Complimentary Breakfast Security - 24 Hours Children Stay Free - under 12 years old Elevator(s) Restaurant(s) Babysitting or Childcare Gift Shop(s) Room Service - Limited Hours Fitness Equipment Meeting Room(s)
The Restaurants and eating facilities ***************************************** Breakfast is Included in the price of the room. The meal is pretty typical of Prgaue, lots of hams and meats and cheeses. They also have items from the English breakfast but they are not quite the same. Sausages are more like the small hot dog type and the baked beans are quite big!!. There is plenty to choose from and it is all buffet self-service unless you want something like smoked fish for example which they will cook to order.
Evening meals are not included in the price. We did try a meal on the first night but found it very expensive (unless you live like that normally!). We were going to treat ourselves to a bottle of champagne and when we asked the waiter for the champagne menu he nearly fell over his feet to get it!. When he came back and the cheapest one on the menu was £55 we knew why!! So we had one glass!! The meal itself was a typical posh restaurant. Not that i've been to many but the portion was the size of a side plate, on a plate the size of a bin lid! We waited for the veg, and potatoes or something to come before we realised that was it! The cost for the meal was about £65 for the two of us. This included two glasses of wine, Starters, main course and desert and coffees. Probably would have been a good price if we weren't starving when we left! Room service - There is a menu in the room, prices vary for sandwiches and main meals and various other snacks and are available for limited times only. Please check the information when you get there.
Prices and How to book. ************************* There are several companies that do the Savoy Hotel. Hotelclub.net do a two night stay (tue to thurs) for £550 in total (for two people) Cheaphotels.com cost £419 total same dates and number of people Discounthotelreservation.org cost £388 for above (the above are Hotels only) There are companies that will do the hotel and flights but you will need to search around for a good deal. BMI baby and EasyJet do flights to Prague if you want to book the hotel and flight separately.
All in all I really enjoyed the experience. Now that I have found a good hotel I would shop around for the best deals on hotel /flight packages but I would without a doubt stay there again. Hope you enjoyed reading about it as much as I have enjoyed staying there. If you need to know anything that I havent answered by all means leave me a message.
