Advantages: pool, restaurant, ambassador lounge, comfortable rooms Disadvantages: Not especially cheap
My mum frequently comes to Finland on business and this is where she stays whenever she's in Helsinki. This means it's the place I've stayed on all my previous visits here. I've never found a reason to complain about it, but then again, my mum has always been the one paying.
Scandic are a big company who have hotels all over Finland, as well as in Swedon and, I think, Norway.
--- Location and Transport---
The Scandic is on Mannerhiemintie, which is a large street running straight through the city centre. It's about five or ten minutes walk from the very centre of town, but there's a tram stop right outside if it's cold or you're feeling lazy. Three different numbers of trams run down Mannerhiemintie at this point, so you shouldn't have to wait too long. The Finnair bus, which goes directly to the airport, stops immediately ...
Advantages: Excellent location (only 5 minutes walk from the Grand Place), free wireless internet access Disadvantages: Fittings seemed well-used, rooms dark
I spent three nights at the ScandicGrand Place, as we had arranged a block booking for the conference I was organising in Brussels and the ScandicGrand Place was the more moderately priced hotel in which we had got a discounted rate, although I ended up booking through hotelclub.net as it was another EUR 25 a night cheaper, so I was paying EUR 110 per night including breakfast.

The fittings were somewhat basic - and there was no safe in the room, which is something ...
Advantages: Right on the beach, great views Disadvantages: None...eventually
We'd had some pretty good hotels on our trip to Andalucia, and we hoped that the hotel we had picked for our final three days wouldn't be any different. We wanted a comfortable room in a hotel on the beach with a nice sea view, but nothing too remote so that we could still enjoy all the facilities of a resort. Did we get what we wanted?
Well, read on...
We booked the HOTEL PERLA MARINA, in the town of NERJA, through bancotel.com. This is a Spanish based travel site whereby you purchase 'cheques' for 50 euros each. Depending on the hotel, season etc, a room costs between 1-3 cheques per night. This can mean savings of over 60% in some cases.
Being the intrepid bargain hunter (some would say tight-fisted git) that I am, I managed to book a series of 3 and 4 star hotels for 50 euros. This hotel was no exception.
Nerja is around ...
