Hi, this is a review of my many various experiences on citylink buses. To start with, i would say that the company mostly arrives and delivers you to your destination....i have taken around 20+ journeys, from glasgow to edinburgh, inverness, aberdeen, etc, and have never found myself late, quite the opposite, with usually about 10-15 mins early being the norm.
I was inspired to write this review after my one slightly bad experience...which ... ...The heating on the bus had broken down, about 20 mins into our journey, the driver apologised for this, and just said we would have to grin and bear it for the remainder of our journey. However, this is my one real gripe with what is really quite a good service.

I was inspired to write this review after my one slightly bad experience...which left me freezing on a bus for 3 hours. The heating on the bus had broken down, about 20 mins into our journey, the driver apologised for this, and just said we would have to grin and bear it for the remainder of our journey. I wuld have like dot hink some kind of compensation would have been offered, but none was even suggested. However, this is my one real gripe with what is really quite a good service. Comfort-wise, it depends on your luck in a way, i almost always try to get to the back of the bus, where there is much more legroom than normal, otherwise, being on any other part of the bus is fine, as long as you get both seats to yourself! This is mostly the case with all buses though, i suppose, but really, having just the one seat to yourself is bearable for about an hour, before dvt would set in! Toilets are common on most buses as well, so no need to dehydrate yourself before getting on! Now for the really important part....price! I would recommend to EVERYONE that they never, ever, purchase their ticket at the counter, and that they do so by internet, hopefully by a few days beforehand. Doing so by internet usually gives you the option of a "supersaver"...this ticket is vastly reduced compared to prices at the desk, for example, glasgow to edinburgh is around £5.50 for a ticket, where as booking ahead gives you the same ticket for £1!! And it's the same for all the routes...one of the best deals i have seen is the inverness to edinburgh route....again, for £1!! Never, ever, book using the return fair option, simply because it doesn't throw up the super-saver option. This of course means that you have to punch in your credit card details twice, but for the money you are saving, and the small amount of time it takes to book, it's very much worth it in the long run! I hope this review helps someone in the near future who is travelling, or backpacking through scotland on a budget, thanks for your time reading it!
Advantages: Punctual; friendly, helpful staff Disadvantages: Adviseable to book in advance
Scottish Citylink operate most of the long distance coach routes in Scotland, many of which also double as local bus services with passengers allowed to purchase tickets on board. This can present a problem - more of which below.
As far as comfort goes, a coach is a coach and these are no better or worse than any others. Most coaches have an onboard toilet and on longer routes there is usually at least one stop of 5-10 minutes for a toilet/smoke ... ...found them to be very punctual - perhaps surprising considering the vagarities of road traffic, although their timetables do take into account the likelihood of slightly longer journey times at busy periods of the day. Staff in my experience are mostly friendly and helpful. In most cases they're also happy to drop you off more or less where you request, even the middle of nowhere! Likewise, in rural areas, they will pick up more or less anywhere. ...

Advantages: Fantastic Customer service Disadvantages: None
I can not believe the amazing customer service I recieved. I was travelling to Inverness - changed at Perth and unfortunatley left my mobile phone on the MegaBus. Lucky for me - it was handed it to the driver and passed on to Ross at CityLink in Dundee. They text my other half who had happened to text me to see where I was and arranged for it to be sent up on the bus the next day to arrive in Inverness at 3:30. This was all done befor I even got ... ...with not a scratch - delievered in 2 envelopes with contact details of the place I was styopping alopng with my other halfs mobile number in case there were any issues.
If it wasn't for the honesty of the person handing it in along with the amazing employees at CityLink I would be heartbroken.
