This was the way we chose to travel to France we were going in holiday.

We have travelled with Sea France previously and they keep sending us these cheap offers.

We Booked our sailing about 4 months ago, we then realised we needed to change the date we sailed 3 weeks before we were due to go, so we phoned and changed departure dates easy no problems.

The port and loading bay was easy to find in Dover we got there about 15 minutes before we were due to sail, they like you there 20 minutes before sailing time. There was a small queue we gave the ticket collector our ticket he gave us our return ticket back he glanced at our passport.

We were given a number to hook on our mirror in the middle of the front window screen; we drove on to the ferry and were waved into a parking space.
We climbed out of the car taking money and passports with us. We looked around found the stairs leading to the decks, we checked the car deck number and our position, took note of which stair we were using.
We found some seats by the window; I do love to gaze out to sea to watch the coastline getting smaller and to watch the seabirds and the other boats. The channel is very busy other ferries, fishing boats and many ships whose business I couldn’t tell.

We had a cup of tea each and a plate of chips each as were feeling we wanted something to eat but not much. It cost us about £5 .50.

I went for a wander around the ferry while Nick snoozed, well we were going to be driving all the way down through France through the Pyrenees into Spain. I cannot drive so it was going to be a long drive for Nick he needed all the rest he could get.

I went to the toilet first; not very nice they were a little bit smelly and not very clean.
The turn around time in either Dover or Calais is not very long; so any cleaning is done on route

I then went into the shop for a browse, of course no duty free these days but goods at a competitive price. Drink of course, perfume, I sprayed myself with Ghost one arm and Dune sun the other, I will see which one smells best in a while, Lots of chocolate on sale I resisted.

I strolled past the bar went on deck looked at the sea then went back to Nick and had another cup of tea just as they were stopping serving before we docked. I DRANK MY TEA AS I watched Calais getting nearer watched all the boats going in and out of port, Feeling a little excited YES we are on holiday. The loud speaker system announces we are docking and would we return to our cars .We do and wait for a little while fortunately our deck is one of the first to unload as it gets full of car fumes as everyone starts their engines. It took just under 1 ½ hours to cross the channel. I put my watch into French time. We go down a ramp and past a kiosk where our Passports are glanced at (just as well with the Photo in mine is it really me?)

We drove on out of the port in Calais and onwards onto the motorways. Our holiday had begun.

Over all Sea France ferries fairly adequate, good service in the restaurant staff friendly. Could be a little cleaner in the toilets. Fairly cheap way to get to France, we travel in the evening at the cheap time.

We did not come back the day we had booked for came home a day early as no problem exchanging our tickets as they had available space on the ferry we turned up for we just showed our ticket to the collector in the booth I explained in my poor French (ok so he spoke English) that we would like to go on the next ferry he typed in some info to the computer gave us our label to hang on our mirror and we got on the next ferry. We have done this before in the past seems to be little problem about changing travel times

I have some good holiday memories, back to real life now. Thank you for reading…Mary
