In March we booked a long weekend at Seafarer's cottage, which is in Wells-next-the-sea in Norfolk. We booked through www.cottages4you.co.uk. The website was straight foward, and we were able to book online and received an email confirmation immediately.

Seafarer's cottage is situated on Freeman Street, which is the main road running through Wells, and along the harbour. Wells is a small town and Freeman Street is easy to find.

Although the cottage is on the main road, it is not too busy in off peak season. One thing to watch out for is that during the summer season you cannot park your car outside the cottage. The road is kept clear as the town gets busier in the summer months. There is a pay and display carpark a few steps along the road on the opposite side, which is reasonably priced. You are of course able to unload your suitcases outside the cottage!

When you book, the confirmation email gives you a code for the key safe at the back of the cottage. This was such an easy arrangement. Holidays I remember from when I was younger always involved finding the keybarer's house before we could get in.

The cottage is a bit like a tardis! It is actually very large on the inside. The front door leads into the lounge which is a nice size. There is a television and a video player in the corner, and the room is quite cosy. There are coal effect fires at either end of the room. Off the lounge is a small hallway leading onto a shower room, dining room and the main staircase. (there is a second smaller staircase in the corner of the lounge, leading up to the twin bedroom).

Through the dining room there is a kitchen with a view over the field at the back of the house. Leading off the kitchen is a door out into the coutyard garden, and another to a pantry with a microwave.

Upstairs are a master bedroom and twin bedroom at the front of the house, and there is a door joining the two. There is a bathroom, landing area and second lounge at the back of the house with lovely views of fields and horses. The second lounge also has a pull out double bed and and a sink in the corner. There is a window seat, a music player, and plenty of books and records. It is a lovely bright room.

The centre of Wells itself is literally one minute down the road. Along the way there are a couple of restaurants, but there are many more places to eat throughout the town. There are two amusement arcades, and plenty of gift shops and cafes along the road by the harbour. There is also a pancake cafe on a boat mored on the harbour. A road leading off this one, up a slope, contains many more shops, including a chemist and supermarket. There is a nice little cafe called "bean to the coast" which does a nice cream tea! There is a cash machine at the end of the road and turn left.

There are some lovely walks to be had around Wells. There is a pretty church and plenty of attractive cottages around every corner. One of the best walks we had was to the sandy beach nearby. If you walk along the edge of the harbour in the opposite direction to the shops you will reach the beach where many people enjoy windsurfing. There is a cafe and gift shop here, and a forest area. If you don't fancy walking, or have small children, there is a miniture train which will take you there.

As we were just in Wells for 3 nights, we did not feel the need to venture outside the town, but there is plenty to do in the area, which you will see from the leaflets in the cottage.

Overall, this is a relaxing holiday destination, perfect for people who enjoy walking, birdwatching, or just a rest!
