Advantages: Lovely Riverside Location, Good Food Disadvantages: No Parking, Not Suitable For Disabled
Sheffield is a City that has transformed itself in the last decade but one thing that will never change is the fact that it is built around seven hills and five rivers. These rivers include the Sheaf, from where the City derives its name, but also the River Don, which is generally recognised as being the first River in Britain to be used for water power for Industry.
All along the course of the River Don, and the other Rivers is where the Industry that made the City famous established itself. Sadly these days much of that Industry has now gone and these areas are rapidly being flattened and replaced with plush Apartments and Wine Bars. One such example of this is the part of the City that lies to the North of the City Centre, alongside the River Don, and this is where the Riverside CafeBar can be found.
The Riverside CafeBar is ...
Advantages: Superb central locations. Varied international menu. Modest prices. Wonderful Thai soups! Disadvantages: The newly opened cafe is fresh and stylish though the original cafe could do with a decor update.
I spend a lot of time in Bergen and there is a cafe/restaurant right in the heart of the city whose name is frequently pencilled into my diary whenever I am planning to meet up with my Norwegian friends. Zupperia was opened in September 2000 and has become established as a very popular spot for locals and visitors alike. This is right next to the bandstand at the north-western end of Lille Lungegårdsvannet - the lake in the city centre. This is virtually in the heart of the shopping ...
Advantages: Lovely staff, great food, outstanding bread, great value Disadvantages: Rather a small menu - might be too small for some.
going to go and have drinks on the roof terrace of the Beluga building which sits on an island in the Wese river and then off to find some tiny restaurant in the historic Schnoor district. The plan went awry when we go to Beluga and found that the roof terrace was closed, presumably because of the high winds. I guess risk-averse German companies don't want customers being blown off their roof. It's probably bad for business.
So the plan adapted quickly and the next thing I knew we were in Boettcherstrasse, a cute and arty little alleyway that I know to be Sabine's favourite street in the city. We only intended it as a short cut back to the market square but we started to dither and look in the windows, I found a wall mounted menu outside a small café-restaurant and the next thing I knew, we were hooked. Neither of us had eaten at Bluhms ...
