The Senegambia Beach Hotel is one of the best known resorts in The Gambia. Situated on the Atlantic Coast with a private beach front the Hotel sits in Twenty Five acres of landscaped grounds. The hotel is Two Star by European standards, although it is listed as up to Four Star in Brochures. The accomodation, in 2 storey, motel like blocks and situated around the grounds, is sparse, but clean and well maintained. Food is of a high standard. Entertainment is Amaturish on occasions, but always enthusiastic and very energetic. The gardens boast a huge variety of Birdlife, certainly more than you would see in a year in the UK. The gardens also boast a troop of small monkeys and some large, up to 5 foot long, Monitor lizards. There is also a 10 o'clock feeding ritual of Kites, Eagles and Vultures that is worth seeing, in fact you cannot miss it as it happens close to the swimming pool. Poolside sevice is good and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Outside of the hotel complex be prepared to fend for yourself, as locals will try to part you with your money by asking you to "sponsor" them, some are genuine, but most are not. Once you have a tan however, this does die off and you tend to be accepted a little more.It gets very hot here and protection is a must. check with travel agent for the dry season, October/November was our choice. Local market is excellent, if you are brave enough. Trips are well organised but tend to be a little overpriced. Overall, if you wish to go to The Gambia, this hotel is recommended.
