Sentosa gets a bad rap from many people for being "commercial" or being "a big theme park", but as a parent with a 4 year old kid, you soon see it in a whole new light....it's torture.... because on Sentosa kids rule.
The whole place is set up to get your kids to spend as much of your money as they can...and you will...and that's enough about money.
Our day...
We started off taking ... ...a very short and uneventful trip. VERY short, so short that you have to wonder why it's there...
Anyway we then walked up the path to the Merlion, on first looks you might say.. "No, I'm not going inside that" it looks tacky, but ignore that and get inside, take the lift to the top and enjoy the view over the island, it is worth it, especially on a hot day when you can catch a nice breeze.

Then we moved on to the butterfly park, my daughter loved this and was eventually persuaded that chasing Butterflies in Singapore was not a good plan, and then she got totally freaked by the collection of huge and gruesome insects on display. If your not into dead butterflies and insects then skip that and spend all your time in the tropical garden with the live ones.
On to the Marine Park...don't miss the giant turtles outside and then into the underwater aquariam walk with the fish, see Seahorses and other weird sea creatures you may never have seen before. There is often a special display on too, while I was there...there wasn't but they were setting up for "Up the Amazon"...
As well as enjoying walking through the tunnel there is also a "touch tank" where you and the kids can touch various fish and sea creatures. If you are a diver you can also go diving with the sharks, non divers can do a short dive with the other fish, costs were around $100 Sing I believe.
Then on to the highlight of the day for my daughter, which made me very proud as she appreciated the next bit more than the theme parks... the Pink Bottled Nosed Dolphins... okay put aside the arguement over whether having dolphins in a park is right or not, seeing them thrilled my daughter to bits and getting a chance to touch one has her still talking about it 6 months later...
Then onto the beach front for a swim in the lagoon before taking the sky train all the way to the cable car we got there in time to take the cable car as the sun was setting over the island and the we made a slight mistake..what ever you do, do NOT take the cable car all the way to Mount Faber in the evening, get off at the mid way stop...there are no taxis at Mount Faber in the evening....it's a long wait...with a nice view.
Advantages: Lots to Do and See Disadvantages: All the little cover charges mount up
...always make time to visit Sentosa and I would like to share with you why.
How to get there
Sentosa is approximately 15 minutes away from the city and 25 minutes from Changi International Airport. There are five different ways to get there
1 ---- Walk in via the Causeway bridge this costs 6S$ for adults and 4S$ for children.
2 --- By bus from the ticketing arrivals centre this costs 7S$ for adults and 5S$ for children
3 --- By Ferry from the ... ...when you are doing a spot of sun bathing so makes me wonder how clean the water would be.
Well that's it I hope it gives you an idea what Sentosa is like and is of help to you if you are thinking of visiting. Enjoy I know I did. ...

Sentosa Island in Singapore is not really worth a visit if you are short on time. Although it must be said that the cable car ride to the island is quite fascinating as one gets an aerial view of the Singapore sky-line and passing ships. The island is okay for a quick visit but is more of a mini theme park. It has a monorail running across the island from which you can see what there is to offer. As with all theme parks, the feeling and atmosphere ... ...of a nice beach in the neighbouring Malaysia. If that is what you are after.
If you should happen to have plenty of time on your hands, then by all means make the trip across, if just to say you have been there. There are three ways of getting across, by cable car, by ferry from the ferry terminal and by road across the causeway that links the mainland to Sentosa. ...

...Mickey Mouse.
Of course, Sentosa is hard pushed to live up to that. The cable car ride there across the busy shipping ports, an entrepot to Asia, is good fun - if not for those of you who have vertigo! But the island is a good idea badly carried out. The water park has some great rides, but safety is neglected and the pools aren't particularly clean. In addition most of the rides seem to be shut.
Transport, by free monorail on the island, is good. ... ...are pretty but deserted and so perhaps the best part of the island are the cool, perfect beaches to its south.
Overall, the island is worth a day-trip to, to contrast Singapore - but probably only if you want to do one thing on the island in particular that you can base your day around. ...

...What is Sentosa?
Sentosa used to be known as an old fishing village called Pulau Blakang Mati before becoming a British Military fortress up until 1967, after this the government then decided to change it into an Island for tourists, Sentosa means peace and tranquility in Malay.

Sentosa has a 3.2-kilometre stretch of white sand beach, and is the only location in Singapore to offer beachfront accommodation and over 670 hotel rooms with full facilities. A short coach ride from the city center and up Mount Faber, from there take the cable car which takes you at some points 90 meters above sea level. Advantages: Beach Location, nice surroundings, nearby attractions Disadvantages: Chaotic restaurants, not well organised.
This hotel is located on the SentosaIsland in Singapore. It is a very clean and well maintained resort which matches the environment of Singapore as even the main city centre is kept extremely clean. It is situated on the beach front and offers lovely views overlooking the South China Sea. There is a bus service from the hotel to other attractions on the island aswell as a service into the city centre.
Arrival - The main foyer area is very open which gives it a lovely spacious effect. We arrived at around 3am after a flight from Brisbane and were staying here for 5 days before continuing on to Dubai. The reception staff were very courteous and provided us with a complimentary upgrade as it was our honeymoon. Our baggage was brought to our room promptly and we were asked if we required anything before retiring to bed. We were very ...
Advantages: On the Beach, Nice Rooms, Great Cocktails Disadvantages: Dirty Beach, Chaotic Restaurant
So half way into our week in Singapore and the time had come to leave the city central Meridien, Orchard Road and move out to SentosaIsland and The Beach!
When I was looking for hotels in Singapore, I noticed the Shangri La claiming to be "The only beach front hotel in Singapore". That sounded promising and that's why we were booked there for four nights. Of course, I failed to ask myself why there are no other beach front hotels. I also failed to check the truth of this claim, or I might have found the other beach hotel on Sentosa!
GETTING THERE - AND SENTOSAISLANDSingapore of course is not a large place - it is a "city state" meaning the country borders don't extend much beyond the city. So, it doesn't take very long to get to the hotel, either from the airport or downtown - about half an hour.
The island of Sentosa ...
