Sentosa Island in Singapore is not really worth a visit if you are short on time. Although it must be said that the cable car ride to the island is quite fascinating as one gets an aerial view of the Singapore sky-line and passing ships.
The island is okay for a quick visit but is more of a mini theme park. It has a monorail running across the island from which you can see what there is to offer. As with all theme parks, the feeling and atmosphere is very artificial and you are better off in search of a nice beach in the neighbouring Malaysia. If that is what you are after.
If you should happen to have plenty of time on your hands, then by all means make the trip across, if just to say you have been there. There are three ways of getting across, by cable car, by ferry from the ferry terminal and by road across the causeway that links the mainland to Sentosa.

I agree, we usually dont stay there but this time we are taking our 5 year old granddaughter and it was sort of her choice, we need to be in Singapore for the things we have planned so have taken the plunge, Its only for 4 nights en-route to the real holiday in Bali

Advantages: Plenty to see and do, great for the whole family, Easy to get around the island Disadvantages: Prices for individual attractions on top of the entry onto Sentosa
Advantages: Perfect for a unique cultural immersion and a wild food-attack. Excellent transport system means getting to anywhere is a breeze. Disadvantages: Hot (at least 30C everyday). Also, there is no natural scenery to speak of.
