After deliberating on where to go for my annual holiday I came across a cheap option to go to Singapore, given that they had just suffered with SARS I was keen to go at such a low price and I managed to get in touch with a lot of the tourist sites before travelling who provided me with a great deal of information, maps and reduced entry fees.

What is Sentosa?

Sentosa used to be known as an old fishing village called Pulau Blakang Mati before becoming a British Military fortress up until 1967, after this the government then decided to change it into an Island for tourists, Sentosa means peace and tranquility in Malay.

Today, Sentosa is Singapore's premier island resort getaway with events all year round. Just 15 minutes from the city, it is a unique blend of leisure and recreational facilities including family attractions, sea sports, golf as well as hotel accommodation and retreats. A rainforest covers 70 per cent of the 500-hectare island and is home to monitor lizards, monkeys, peacocks, parrots as well as other native fauna and flora. Sentosa has a 3.2-kilometre stretch of white sand beach, and is the only location in Singapore to offer beachfront accommodation and over 670 hotel rooms with full facilities. Accessed by cable car, bus, taxi or car, the island is open for 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. I spent 3 out of 7 days visiting Sentosa, a lot of time you might think for a small island but to be honest Singapore is a small place to visit in general.

Underwater World and Dolphin Lagoon offers you the opportunity to swim with Pink Dolphins (I think I remember being told that these were home to Singapore but not sure if they do actually originate in Singapore) for an fraction of the cost you normally are asked to pay in Florida etc.
View the vast number of underwater creatures at the Underwater World and watch the dolphin show at Dolphin Lagoon both my friend and myself had a photograph taken at Underwater World which had a dolphin jumping over a boat and aqm sure that children would love to have one taken themselves.

Outside the attractions are the usual holiday items such as henna tattoos and little tourist shops scattered all across the island.

Fort Siloso, visit the preserved coastal fort which was built in the 1880's by the British Royal Artillery, this significant historical monument to remind visitors of the island's colonial heritage, you can enter the memorial there and walk in that area which was fairly steep and a bit too much of an effort so I visited via the Monorail.

The Merlion is the symbol of Singapore and is a monument with the head of a lion and the body of a mermaid's body with a 37 metre tall structure offers visitors a 360 degree birds eye view of the southern islands, by night the mythical creatures scales glow in five different colours and is well worth seeing. I had my photograph taken in the head with the view of the docks in the background.

Free hop on buses that get you around the island for free and a monorail also free to hop on and off with a short tour guide as you circulate a leaflet gives you an idea of which bus takes you to which part of the island.
I recommend that if you are in Singapore you visit Sentosa it is a great experience and there is plenty to see.

A nice start but you mention nothing about Fantasty Land - which takes up most of the island! Also, a little more info on the aqarium would be way better since it's probably the best one I've ever been to - touching the stingrays? Walking under swimming sharks? If you add these in, let me know and I'll pop back to rerate. xx

Sounds very nice! Would love to go to that region in the future, but travelling that far out is a bit daunting.
