I went to Seoul with my boyfriend. He was there for business and I went there thinking that I might have the chance to travel around the city by myself. It turned out to be a terrible trip for me. Seoul is a very inconvenient city for foreigners... There are definitely no English sign at all. All signs are in Korean, which means it's impossible for those who do not know Korean to move around by themselves. As a result, I had to stay with my boifriend in the day time and there was almost no chance to see anything. The night life in Korean is very busy. There are loads of pubs, discos and bars. We went to a couple with some friends and it's absolutely fantastic. Nice food with good music. However, the transportation is also terrible. It's almost impossible to use the public transportation for the very same reason. If you want to take taxi, the taxi drivers do not know any English as well. You definitely have to remember to take out the business card of the hotel you stay in. It is not a good place for shopping. Koreans have their own fashion which do not seem to meet the taste for non-Koreans. Designer stuff are expensive. You have to be very careful that it is easy to be cheater because you might pay high price for a fake/imitation. As for Korean culture, you might feel that it's kind of "trasition" between Japan and China. For me it's nothing too special. (I am a Chinese.) However I do enjoy their traditional music. The food is good as well, if you enjoy spicy food. Korean BBQ is something you cannot miss. It is a good place for those who enjoy "adventures"... but I don't recommend it to those who like to travel by themselves.
